Travel to a more temperate climate and run circles around everyone if you trained in southeast Louisiana (but avoid altitude)

I think they still host the Rock N Roll marathon

Not the past few years. Maybe it comes back?

Upside to running a marathon in New Orleans is the random gunfire keeps you moving faster than your training pace.

Which town hosts the best marathon? NOLA, BR, Shreveport?
I would say either Legs n Dregs in NOLA or the Zydeco in Lafayette. Two completely different experiences Legs N Dregs is a fun run with stops at different breweries for recovery while enjoying a draft, Zydeco is a Boston qualifier with some really good competition.

Louisiana Marathon is the best (overall). Zydeco is alot of fun but not to the scale of La Marathon. Honestly though, nothing else in this state is.

For a race that time of year, I prefer St Jude in Memphis or Disney Marathon but that one is already sold out.

Travel to a more interesting one

I’ve done the Dallas, Houston, and Austin ones. Hate to travel too far into an unknown environment so was looking at Louisiana. Was thinking NOLA could be interesting but have no desire to run through Baton Rouge or Shreveport. Maybe I’ll look at Florida.

Out of curiosity, how many ankles generally get snapped off in one of those?

Here's the route for the LA Marathon from last year:

The North Blvd uphill is massive and at the end of both 1/2 and full marathon. It's brutal at that point in the race. Other minor uphills are the Dalrymple (near City Park) and Steele Blvd sections.

Last few years the weather has been great. It is still a very hit or miss situation when thinking about the weather. I believe the Houston Marathon is either the same weekend or a weekend after the Louisiana Marathon, which a lot of people will go out to run a fast time since it's much flatter and has comparable weather.

The trails must be wider and smoother than what I’m envisioning, then.

most are single track trails

obviously not many technical/rocky trails in LA

I've ran more technical trails in TX, NM, AR, CO, etc and you just slow down and focus on foot placement

Louisiana marathon in BR is a good race for BQ attempt. Zeydeco is as well but much smaller field and when a 2:5x race time wins you can't really say that it has good competition. New Orleans no longer has a marathon unless you want to run the Urban Ultra 50k or 50 mile in Oct which is a great event. Lazy Hound racing continues to improve the course and it ends at a brewery.

will also vouch for Miss Gulf Coast in Dec if BQ is your goal.

does New Orleans even have a marathon

Not any more. Probably because there isn’t enough police to secure the route. Half of the police on the Crescent City Classic route are now from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Girl from my run group and her mom did this race last year. They said it was unnerving because it was so flat.

I took a dump at the Marathon in Gonzales once. I didn’t flush.
