I used to work in the hotel business and my first week on the job in 1992 my boss made me go to rubensteins and get a tux. I still wear it once or twice a year.
OP (if you care about looking sharp) get a wool tuxedo jacket and pants, and a decent black tie (no clip ons…they aren’t hard to tie), skip the cummerbund and get a nice cotton flat front shirt, black braces and a set of black shirt studs. Starch the shite out of the shirt before each wear.
you’ll look better than 90% of the dudes wearing rental polyester crap

JCPenney. I think I got mine for less than $150. Standard lapel, not a rounded lapel. Came with the tuxedo pants stripe. If you want something that lasts a lifetime, go to Jos A. Bank or Men's Wearhouse for that. It will run you closer to $500 but you should hope to never buy one again.
If you want to have fun with it, just buy tuxedo pants and get a flashy/black&metallic colored tuxedo jacket from Macy's/JCP/MW if you're solely using for Mardi Gras. Have fun with it.

Years ago we attended a ball, and I purchased my Tux from JC Penny, online, of all places.

Agree.
Tuxedos to Geaux, fantastic customer service. They hemmed a pair of trousers for me, two weeks ago, in ten minutes while I checked out.

I found one on sale at Macys and had it tailored. $400 all together with shirt, shoes, bow tie and tux.

K&G, The Mens Wearhouse, and Jos A Banks are all owned by the same corporation. You'll find similar items at each.

Are you a portly fellow?
Definitely 10 or 15 lbs overweight. My Cajun and Irish ancestors didn’t grace me with a lean build.

Lol imagine going to the Mardi Gras poser parties and being fat. SAD, if you had actual Mardi Gras money you would have a bespoke black tie and a tailor.

Where have you baws found a tux that A) didn’t cost $500 bucks and B) wasn’t “slim”’or “modern” fit. I’m not built for that.

Thats why im saying drop the weight. 10-15 lbs aint shite my man.
Or dont change your habits, gain another 15 lbs, need a new tux again next year because you got fatter and need to drop 30lbs.
I'm giving you the best advice here. Live longer and save money.
