Best suv you’ve driven on snow?

I own a Tesla suv and not super impressed with its snow capabilities (battery during winter sucks, which is a huge negative). Looking at trading it in for a new suv for the winter time. Since work is pretty far, want a suv that’s superb during snow.
Looking to drop 80k or so max, everyone and their mother says Subaru but I feel their tech is outdated. How is the 4Runner and the q5?

Sir, this is a South LA based website with people concentrated in the traditional SEC footprint. What is this snow you speak of?

Assuming you don’t do much off-roading with the Tesla
I was really impressed driving Honda’s AWD vehicles in snow. Both were rentals but Pilot and CRV were very good
I’d look at the Passport as it’s more sporty

Being that he's driving a battery operated vehicle, he's banking on global warming being reversed and the ice age settling in. Should have snow as far south as Tampa within a couple years.
But - to the OP's original question, any 4WD or AWD SUV should be a great improvement. The gearing is different in gasoline or diesel powered vehicles. Manual transmissions are even better, since you can start rolling in 2nd gear rather than in first, which would help avoid breaking traction and spinning tires in snowy conditions.

My Mercedes GLE 450 does great but honestly any German or Scandinavian SUV with all wheel drive will be a huge upgrade. They design those things for driving in the snow.

My 2015 Subaru Outback and my wife’s 2022 Forester Wilderness have both been very sure-footed in snow and relatively sure-footed in ice. One reason there are so many on the road. They’re pretty remarkable actually.

Best I’ve driven on “real” snow is 2022 Outback.

2004 KIA Sportage AWD. 5 German winters and that thing was unstoppable. Being from the south I was terrified of snow but after a couple of weeks of snow on the roads every morning, like most red necks from the south, I decided I'd play in the snow....could not make that KIA break a tire try as I might...100 + MPH on the Autobahn in severe weather and never an incident of any kind. It was almost impossible to spin a tire...and would stop almost like it did in summer. We had a local beater BMW, front wheel drive...and that thing was deadly in snow.
Also had a 1988 K5 Blazer...it didn't see a lot of snow but it did see some and it was heads and shoulders better than a 4wd pickup...I drove a 4 wd PU in New Mexico and Washington State winters and they are almost useless in snow.

The one thing that matters most is the right tires for snow. You can easily run a rear wheel drive car in snow with snow tires. The next thing is the drive system. Having 4 wheel drive that can be driven on pavement (AWD),, then being able to lock the axels (4x4) for blizzard conditions where the roads are 100% snow and ice covered helps.
Most people will tell you it’s not the car, it’s the tires and your driving style.

Change your gender but not your sexual preference and by an all wheel drive Suburu. You will worshiped as an all terrain feminist warrior and never have to pay for another drink in your life.

Have good friends in Idaho that grew up there. They are big skiers and outdoors people. They have 2 Outbacks and a 4Runner TRD Off Road. The right tires help a lot.

I had a company dodge durango base model awd in PA. Also had my personal f150 4x4
That durango was so nice to drive in fresh powder. And it was a POS for the most part.

You see nothing but Subaru in the Northeast. They have always had a reputation for all wheel drive.
