Im looking for a small portable generator to have for tailgates or small things around the house during power outage. Any recommendations on a decent priced reliable model that isn't a $2000 Honda.

Nope, Honda is the only way to go.

If you get a premium membership Chicken will let you borrow these two on gameday, but you have to give back at kickoff to power the Scoreboard.

Used a small ryobi for work and never had issues.

Depending on what you need to run and for how long, if you don't want to get a Honda or Yamaha then deep cycle batteries can be used for just say a tv.

When the hurricanes were headed our way, I bought a portable Briggs&Stratton off of amazon for somewhere around $500. It's super quiet and does the job. Slightly larger than the comparable Honda. I have no trouble slinging it around by built in handle.

This really is more of an OB topic scooba. This is where they shine. You might buy a second generator because of all the deals they find you

Check out Northern Tool ~ NorthStar brand. ~ 2400 running watts. ~ Honda Engine ~ $569/$599 range.
Do not own one. Already have three portable and a stationary standby.(None are that brand) Just another option for you to look at.
edit for clarification.

Honestly, the main reason is an emergency backup for the reef tank. Tailgates would allow me to run it a few times a year.
Seems the ones on the market are either $199 or $2000.

The best deal is the Honda EU 2000i and the Campion model.
Got mine on sale on tax free weekend. It totals at 3800 running watts.
Those two parrelled together can run any modern camper.
If you have the cash, I'd get the 7k if you think you need the running power. That'll be my next purchase of generator.

As others have already said multiple times the Honda Eu2000 is the only correct answer,$1000,00 from Mayberry Sales, free shipping, no sales tax.

Honda EU 1000i
Chappy, this would do it for you IMO but I would look at a 2k because you never know if you need more power.
The A/C in a camper will draw the most power overtime. You'd need more like 3-4k to run an A/C, a fridge, and lights and have the availability to use a microwave.
Your owners manual should have the starting watts for all electronics plus the running watts.
Add each up into two separate columns. Once you know the total, compare generators based off those numbers.
