Bill and Melinda Gates own nearly 70,000 acres of farm and timberland in Louisiana. They bought some from George Soros.
What happens to the land now that the couple of 27 years is getting divorced?

The most famous and by far wealthiest farmland owners in sparsely populated Concordia Parish are getting a divorce.
Bill Gates, one of the most powerful billionaires in the world and founder of tech giant Microsoft, and wife Melinda are ending their 27-year marriage, the two tweeted in unison on Monday.
Ownership of Angelina Plantation Farms, which sits among three wildlife areas in Monterey with a view of Bayou Cocodrie, and other property has been a rather open secret familiar to those who live in the area, masked by a web of affiliated businesses.
Through them, Gates has been a major landowner in Louisiana since 2017, acquiring portions of property that previously had at least two well-known owners: hedge fund billionaire George Soros and former WorldCom leader Bernard J. Ebbers.

The whole parish is owned by OOS investors. I can think of 2 other pieces of similar sized owned by big $.

So what’s the prevailing theory about why this particular area is being owned by these power players?

camps...its always camps
but really, rich people have been investing in land since the idea of buying land came into existence
its almost always a positive investment
if I was a billionaire I'd own millions of acres

Can't speak to why the particular area but my own speculation on why Gates is buying up farmland has something to do with creating an alternate, plant based food supply. Think "cows are climate change. Don't eat beef".

Right, they have so many companies and investments at that level of wealth, they likely don't even know all of the companies and land they own.

I heard they bought it as a means to preserve the land, but who really knows?

He is about to make more billions by selling it to the Gov who are going to GIVE it to aspiring back farmers.
This is not a joke, look it up.
