So he wanted to die and did his best to die, failed and in an ‘almost’ vegetative state. His wife is going to let him die but the mom says he wants to now live in this state?

He will never be productive again. That is a pipe dream. This is a sad story no matter from what angle.

The mom had him arrested for something IIRC and he told her if she did that he would kill himself so he tried to hang himself. Now the mom is trying to keep him alive as a vegetable.

On November 2, 2018, Josh Barras was arrested on misdemeanor charges and transported to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center ("LPCC") for booking. At the time of his arrest and booking, Barras was allegedly exhibiting "bizarre behavior." During booking, Barras was permitted to enter an LPCC restroom alone and unmonitored for approximately twenty minutes. When LPCC personnel ultimately checked on Barras in the restroom, he had attempted suicide and was unresponsive. He was immediately rushed to Lafayette General Medical Center. Barras allegedly "had a history of mental illness well documented in the medical and institutional records of the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center." The Amended Complaint also alleges that "it was known that Josh Barras had attempted suicide previously."

The Terri Schiavo case made me give my parents the power over my medical decisions should something happen to me.

It is good you put that in writing so you won't ever end up in a situation like this.

I’m sure it’s palliative end of life care provided by hospice. Sounds like both sides are capable of exageration here.

Josh was discharged from hospice services last year because he is no longer eligible. He hadn't shown any decline in over a year. He is not end of life. He is not dying. He is capable of living at least another 20 years. He is showing alot of improvement and responding to his mom. It is no exageration that is would be torture to starve a conscious man to death.

Leaving him as a vegetable the past 3 years and for 20 more as you are suggesting also seems like torture

It was a misdemeanor charge. In the days prior he had sent someone a message saying he wanted to end it because his "wife" was putting him through hell but he said he wasn't going to act on it. When he was arrested he was under the influence and not thinking clearly

He didn't want to live anymore.

Actually if you speak to people who have survived an attempt, the majority of the time it wasn't because they didn't want to live anymore. It's usually because they just want the pain to stop.

No he didn't want to die. He was not thinking clearly at the time of his arrest and was under the influence. It is documented in the reports that he was showing very bizarre behavior in the 3 hours he was in custody prior to his attempt. Don't you think it would be inhumane to take his life when he is just barely learning to speak again? Shouldn't he have the right to say how he feels instead of someone making the decision who has already moved on with their life and is looking to gain a million dollars from his death? His mom isn't fighting to keep him like this. She is fighting to improve his life with the help of therapy and treatment

So if he can't make a 100% recovery his life is worthless? There have been many people alot worse off than Josh that are living happy lives. The difference is those people had someone advocating for them and willing to do whatever it takes to help them recover. Josh has that in his mother but right now legally his "wife" is standing in the way. If his mom is given guardianship in January she will be free to get him the help he needs

This is false information. The truth is his mom was trying to stop him from getting arrested and got him accepted into treatment. She was trying to get him to go there instead of him going to jail. Josh's text messages have already been posted on tiktok and in the Facebook groups. From Josh's own words he said he wanted to stop his heart because of what Maegan was doing. This was about 24 hours before he attempted suicide.

He isn't in a vegetative state but yes it is evil that his "wife" has left him like this instead of getting him treatment with the thousands of dollars that was donated to him. His mom doesn't want to leave him like this. He needs treatment and therapy for recovery. It doesn't just happen by itself. He needs help.

Watch this video and you can see exactly what is possible when you have someone who actually cares getting you the help you need.
