audio engineer?
I don’t recall that being something you could get a degree in at a university.
Thank you for your concern but you’re wrong.

My 16 year old is interested in audio engineering, I'm trying to encourage a different career path because I think AI will eventually take over everything but running the cables. Is that a bad take by me?
My best advice to young guys right now if they can't get a job at an ACTUAL studio (stereo, microphone, and a computer doesn't make it a studio)....do it on the side as a hobby and if you truly like it & clients start piling up, then make it your career. It's a whole different scene than the one I grew up and learned in.

Ok. Then why not call them an audio doctor?
I’m not saying they aren’t talented, and that anyone can do it. It takes a lot of training I’m sure.
Engineers go to engineering schools and get a degree.
Doctors go to medical school and get a degree.
Calling people that did neither of those an engineer or a doctor is silly. That’s all. And I know my reasoning here is silly and I’m being ridiculous.
You don’t see other jobs with the title “doctor”, other than actual people with doctoral degrees. Why call someone without an engineering degree an engineer?
If they actually got a legit engineering degree and do that, then fine, but I’d be willing to bet they did not.
No different than all the people with the title Sales Engineer who don’t have engineering degrees. Some do, but most do not.
The reason it's Audio Engineer is that the original people who built studios, the recording equipment, and recorded the artists were mechanical and electrical engineers. At the invention and onset of audio production, there was no "audio engineer". As these "actual" engineers started to lean towards audio instead of their initial fields, the title stuck.
I'm sorry that this thread coincided with your monthly cycle but now you don't have to worry about why I'm a Sound/Audio Engineer and you're not.
And yes, I have a degree for Audio Engineering.
