Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot lost her bid for a second term Tuesday, failing to make a top-two runoff in the latest demonstration of growing concerns about crime in one of the nation’s largest cities.

There is a God. Great for the Windy City but much more to work on.

Dollars to donuts that they elect an even bigger void of space to be their mayor

lol I would expect nothing less. Hard to imagine someone worse than Lightfoot, but then I remember Latoya exists.

NOLA should take a clue from this and dump Teedy out on her arse.

Do you trust the constituents in NOLA to elect someone worthy of the office?

Very much so. He has work to do though if he wants to consolidate supporters of the other candidates behind him.

Higher taxes and less police will be a tough sell to the majority of Chicagoans right now.

She finally got hooked

The only Lightfoot I like is Gordon.

Ooooh, a parody about Lightfoot set to the tune of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

Ironically, that will probably help him most with progressive white women along the lakefront.

Cuey Garcia and Willie Wilson would have been the best case for moderate leadership. The millions he spent on tanks of gas and bags of groceries did nothing for perennial candidate Wilson. Cuey is a solid Democrat but frankly they split the vote with the sane minded. Johnson is a socialist loon who will take advantage of Jelly Belly and the Socialist Caucus in DC to win...likely for the same main reason as Teedy does. Vallas is a wolf in sheep's clothing. He oversaw the public schools which should tell everyone the only thing they need to know about him. He's also aligned with the anti-gun nuts.

The last female mayor was also voted out after one term. 6 years later brought the 2nd Bastard Daley who quite frankly is the one who put the city on the path that Beetlejuice took and ran right into the ground. The mayor who broke federal laws by ordering city workers to go and bulldoze "X"s into the sole runway at Meigs Field in the middle of a random arse night. (With no thought of the mess he was creating for the planes parked there that night.)

No matter the mayor it's only going to get worse. If Vallas wins you'll hear non-stop screams of racism (he wants to fire CPD Superintendent Brown...who is black on Day 1). Johnson...well the BLM will just move into the same place BJ had the LGBT in. That city is about to go from Chiraq to Chikraine.

Willie would have likely done the best job, but he is a self-made millionaire who supports hard work, supports law enforcement, and voted for Trump in 2016, so he never had a prayer.

Chuy has been part of the machine for nearly 40 years and his son is a known gang member. He would've been awful.

Test scores improved when he took over CPS. That's why the teacher's union is scared to death of him. He held them accountable, at least briefly. His support of gun control, LGBT rights and abortion is mostly because his opponents accuse him of being a Republican in disguise.

Nah. Daley was corrupt and entrenched in the machine, but he kept the city largely clean and safe. Lightfoot pissed him off by being anti-machine and trying to probe corruption when she was on his staff. Being an outsider is what helped her win the mayoral election in the first place. Her failures were due to her own incompetence.

The whole Daley clan has been corrupt since Sr bought an hour of Chicago TV to give JFK the 1960 election. Instead she just broke almost everything else. We're nowhere close to Chicago but still can pull it off the satellite spot beam...I didn't even bother watching the debates this year compared to the last free-for-all. There were a handful of candidates in the last primary who I thought would be better than others. Beetlejuice fooled me into thinking she'd fix what was wrong.

It would have been interesting to see what things would have looked like had Corona and the BLM riots not happened. She's got plenty of time for reflection about that now... while on both a federal and city pension. She'll be seen as the mayor who pushed the Bears out of Chicago. Daley did that 2 decades ago with that upper midwest mistake by the lake.

Chicago is Chicago. It's been that way for a century. First the mob and then a mayor whose family wasn't much different than the mob. I grew up hearing stories from my uncle who lived there and who had city jobs.

I've been to almost every major city in our country (excluding the west coast). 18 years ago I was in SF on a Saturday night and saw Guardian Angels right by my rental before dark and ate at an upscale Italian restaurant. As we were eating we heard gunfire and police down near where we had walked. Aside from then walking past that to get back in the SUV, I have never felt more unsafe in my life than I have in Chicago for the past 2 decades. Because I'm stupid we still have our Bears season tickets. We have a rule, no stopping until we're out of Cook County & Gary. Hold it or grab an old McDonald's cup to use.

Nobody is going to change that over the next decade. I grew up a Chicago sports fan but there's no reason to go to the city anymore. The Bulls start building and then give up by tearing it down. The Blackhawks spit in the face of their fans tonight with how little they valued Kane (no 2023 1st AND retained 50% of his salary...WTF!). I hate the Sox. I loved the Cubs until they won and the Ricketts monopolized Wrigleyville (turning it into an overpriced amusement park with a middle of the road team). Bears will be in Arlington before the city even starts to turn it around. I do hope the city rips out the 2002 renovation and uses it for epic outdoor concerts/football (maybe NW pays for a portion of the rebuild with what they are planning to spend for their new smaller stadium).

I realize this has been a bit long winded. It's almost impossible not to be passionate about a city that you grew up naively hoping to live in after college.

The Outfit had a lot to do with that. It's been documented that they rigged Illinois for JFK. It's why we still joke about cemeteries being voting precincts.

You, me and countless other people. Posters on the Poli Board still refer to her as a "diversity hire", but she didn't run on that in 2019.

Lightfoot herself blamed Covid for derailing her agenda before she ever played a race card. Unfortunately she became arrogant, turned her back on cops, and doubled down on lockdowns and the BLM stuff.

She will, but to be fair, George Halas himself said Soldier Field was only supposed be a temporary home when the NFL made them leave Wrigley. They've been trying to get out for decades. Daley only delayed the move.

The Outfit was entrenched in Chicago politics until the Family Secrets trial in the mid 2000s, regardless of the mayor. In some ways, the city was better with their influence. For a nominal street tax, they'd protect your business and neighborhood.

Screw you.

As someone who has lived in and around Chicago for most of my life, I get it.
