Yes, try it. You need it to get in but they don’t watch you at the self checkout to see if the names match your card used to pay.

Two things - if your friend has an old card with no pic - then probably no one will notice

If you go to self check out then they won’t know

I find the Costco in BR to be real bitches about this

Not long ago my husband and I went - my card was already out but I had to run to the bathroom - so when he held up my card for the cashier to scan, she was a real bitch about it, so he got out his card, when I got back to the checkout she told me no one else can use my card except me. And I told her that was nice and to have a great day.

They are pretty strict when you pay at the register, if you don’t want to get a Costco membership, have your friend purchase Costco gift cards and you don’t have to have membership to use the GC.

No.
They are pretty strict.

Sam though not really a problem.
I let a friend of mine who is black and 5" taller than me use it all the time.

You should get your friend to buy a COSTCO Shop card for you. They are basically gift cards that they sell but a non-member can use one to enter and make purchases up to the amount of the Shop card.

I’m pretty sure you can buy food from the food court and maybe even alcohol without being a member.

Last time I was there I watched a girl with a cart full of stuff get asked to leave because she was trying to check out with her Mom’s Costco card.

This was in the “self checkout” line too. But at my Costco even those lanes have people who check, and they scan all the items in your cart still, lol. I had always wondered about this, and then witnessed it first hand on my last visit. So I would never try it.

Pretty sure the credit/debit card you pay with has to match the name on the membership card. If you pay with cash then go for it

This is absolutely 100% incorrect.

I bought $1000 set of tires just a month ago at Costco using someone elses Costco card and paid with my debit card.

It's hit or miss. My parents got a membership once just so my mom could get cheap hearing aids from there. They don't live near a Costco so they gave us my dad's card and we'd use it. We have a Sam's membership and love it, but we figured we'd see what all the Costco hype is about.

Even though my dad and I share a name, and look a lot a like, after 2-3 shopping trips one douchebag at the register decided he didn't believe the pic was me, asked me for my driver's license, couldn't believe the names matched, and he and a manager did a comparison. Took them a while because we share a name and look alike, but they figured it out. We've never been back, and my parents won't be renewing.

Outside of that experience, we really like Sam's a lot more than Costco. Only better thing about Costco is their liquor store. Can't think of anything else I prefer there over Sam's.

No, it’s not. My uncle was with us and tried to pay with his debit card and my Costco card and they wouldn’t allow it.

Can't buy alcohol, I think that is the only limitation.

You don't have to be a Costco Member or have a card to buy alcohol if you live in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Texas and Vermont.

The same State rules/laws would also apply to Sam's Club
