Is the DMV in Baton Rouge still helping people in person?

A friend has been trying to get his registration renewed for months. There is a flag on his drivers license because of changing insurance companies so he can't do it online. The DMV email says they will schedule a call to resolve issues and their voicemail tells you to leave a messge.

This has gone on for months. Meantime registration is expired.

Go to one of the “express” places that are operated by an authorized third party.

It’s a pain in the arse. Last time I had flag for insurance, I went to the DMV, waited in line, was turned away and told I had to make an appointment, closest one was 2 months away, went to the appointment and they told me they couldn’t resolve my issue and that I had to call an 800 number. Which, of course, the 800 number was always busy.

I don’t think they can clear flags.

Yes. It’s easy. Make an appointment. No waiting. Very quick. Do not got to Express. You will pay double.

Take a drive to one of the rural parishes. Usually you can just walk in. Check their hours first. Some of them are only open two or three days a week.

I speak from experience having to go to OMV on Independence Blvd two months ago for issue that could not be resolved at Express OMV. The doors open at 8am. There will be a line at door at 7am. If you do not get through the door by 9am, you will not be seen that day. That is to say, if you get there at 8:45am, you will be there 7+ hours.

Appointments can be scheduled, but require weeks in advance and seemingly there is still a wait. However you will be priority.

Its genius.

Not only does the government control your license but it will also tell you when you can come and get it.

They are probably making sure they can fit in 2 citizens a day per DMV worker so quotas are met.

I canNOT believe I am going to say something positive about the DMV. I have been dealing with those asshats since I was 14.5 (when you used to be able to get a learner's permit) and this is the first time I have said something good.

I had to go a while back and got turned away at the door. Was told to make an appointment. Cursed them up and down for being the lazy shits they are and made the appointment online.

Went at the listed time, walked in, sat for maybe five minutes, called to desk, took care of business and was out the door in under 15. It was actually painless and DARE I SAY IT??? efficient.

I am a sample test case of one but the appointment system seems to work. I would schedule an appointment, print the confirmation and carry it around in the meantime. If you get stopped, show them the printout.

I know this opinion is in the extreme minority but the DMV I use is pretty good. I make an appointment, show up a little early and sometimes I'm out before my appointment time. All in all pretty good for a Government office.

I would recommend he go to the OMV Express place on Industriplex. It used to be a trampoline place.

I made an appointment online - showed up and I was 1 of 2 people in there - they had 6 bays of workers...

I was in and out in less than 15 minutes - and was doing a title transfer with a death certificate.
