I worked at a housewares store when I was going to college. We kept the n2o cartridges for these things locked up behind the counter.

Always funny when some teenagers or college aged kids came into our store to ask about them.

They usually had a shite eating grin on their face. They knew that we knew they weren't whipping up a dessert for the next evening meal.

It’s a very small amount, not enough to fill one balloon. Apparently you can get cartridges at head shops. I read whippets are very safe as long as you don’t put a bag over your head, but long term use can lead to vitamin b deficiency and you’ll get to park in the handicap spots.

The sub Reddit is quite interesting. Users go trough a duffle bag full of canisters (600) in a weekend.

A high that lasts about 15 seconds and leaves holes in your brain sounds real safe.

That shite is so overrated. You’re literally depriving your brain of oxygen for a 20 second high.

Not trying to advocate it’s recreational use, but is interesting to me. Apparently xenon gas is the perfect medical anesthesia, but is too expensive to harvest.

Well I guess when the dr tries to use it on you tell them to stop that it’s not safe.

asphyxiation is not how it works at all.
The mechanism of action of nitrous oxide is trifold and includes analgesia, anxiolysis, and anesthesia, as follows:
Its analgesic mechanism of action is described as opioid in nature and may involve a number of spinal neuromodulators.
The anxiolytic effect is similar to that of benzodiazepine and may involve gamma aminobutyric (GABA) receptors.
The anesthesia mechanism may involve GABA and possibly N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors as well. [6] In general, the effect of nitrous oxide ceases as soon as the inhalation stops, with no residual effect.
