First time seeing Laynes in DFW. What do the OT historians think?

Never heard of Laynes but damn I miss Canes. Need to get some in Nashville.

But how are either a rip off? You pay money and get chicken?

Both are rip-offs. Gas station Chicken around the South is better and cheaper than any chicken chain.

Oh I gotcha- I thought you meant rip off like you were getting jobbed

According to the Interwebz, Laynes started in 94 and Canes in 96. Maybe Todd had some inspiration

I thought Guthrie’s was the first with the concept.

Layne’s was pretty good. I had it back in the day in college station.

Canes started off as something else and he later changed the name to Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers

They're not even remotely similar. Layne's toast is like a square piece of bread cut from a standard loaf whereas Cane's toast is more rectangular.

Do they have Layne's sauce?

Was Bailey's. They bought the Fast Track Building at Lee and Highland and painted that MFer Green.
This is a random Fast Track pic but it's the same as their First Bailey's structure.
They painted the Red part Green and put a big Bailey's logo on it. I worked at Pizza Hut on Nicholson back then. We traded pizza for chicken with them all the time.

Zaxby’s sucks. Never tried Layne’s or Guthrie’s. Bailey’s was great back in the day as well (the awesome deals via coupon from the “beginning of the semester coupon book” might have influenced the bailey’s love.

Yep. And they opened one week apart from each other. Pretty crazy.

Bailey’s was awesome except hard to access during daytime hours with traffic and that intersection. I remember telling everyone in late 90s how much better it was than Cane’s. Mostly because a 2am run would usually give you a few extra fingers.
