Anyone have recent experience selling a car to Carmax? I looked up Carvana but they did not have location in La and did not have pick up service here either.

If you sold a car was it easy or a nightmare? Did you get asking price?

I know I can sell myself, just looking for options.

Also what is the goto now to look up used car prices, KBB or Edmonds?

Sorry, I only use DuPont Registry and Robb Report for all my vehicle purchases.

Carmax gives you an offer and doesn’t negotiate, but it’s very easy and no
pressure

Very easy to do, I've sold 2 vehicles to Carmax due to them giving me more than a dealer surprisingly.

My son and his wife have sold two vehicles at Carmax. They consistently pay more than what you would get on trade, and you walk out with a check. I know several other people who go there as well.

They gave me a fair price on my old MINI. Easy process.

I took my truck there to get appraised. I went through the car wash on the way there. They knocked my appraisal because they told me there was an “unknown leak” which was just water falling from the wash

I watched two guys appraise my truck as I was buying a new one at a dealership. One teaching the other. Those goons said my hood was repainted at one time. Not worth arguing over but I was the only owner and no, it was never repainted.

I’ve traded several times and sold one to them once or twice. Usually slightly higher then trade in value at other places and it is quick. We took our old van in and walked out with a check less than an hour later. Could have been faster than that but we looked around at used cars a bit while we were there.

Also try givemethevin.com if they don't beat carmax, they will give you $100.

Just did it a month ago. Traded in mine for a used car. Terrific experience. Couldn’t have been easier

Sold one to them quite a few years ago. Probably more than I would have gotten as a trade in, less than a private sale, but within my range of acceptable price and I didn't have the hassle of a private sale. Pretty straight forward and painless. As others said, they give you a price and it's a take it or leave it price. No negotiating.

I sold 1 out of 2 cars to carmax.

One car, like one of the guys above said it had frame damage (bs) and they offered me basically nothing for it.

The other car I tried to trade it in at the dealership and got low balled. So I took it to car max. They gave me 1500 more than the dealership and about 1500 less than if I sold it private party. I didn’t want to deal with selling it.

It took a couple hrs for carmax to inspect the car then offer. Once we agreed to the offer and signed the paperwork we got a check in about 20min.

Got an offer from CarMax, but the dealership we bought from ended up offering more. Plus trading in at the dealership reduces the taxable amount so you save on sales tax.

I always recommend getting a quote from Carmax, and Give Me The VIN, before going to the dealership to trade in. If the quote from CM/GMTV are higher than the dealership’s, the dealership will often times bump theirs up to make a sell on a vehicle from their lot. If not, you can go back to CM/GMTV and sell outright.

This might be a good post, but I need a translator.

OP, Carmax will lowball you, but you'll get a check that day.
