I didn’t say they couldn’t change the price. I would consider it unethical

Immoral would be the word, unethical indicates breaking a rule.

Keep in mind Carmax works with a national inventory and it may be the system has seen and increase on sales of that model that would indicate it is underpriced. It may be demand several states away but since they shift cars to take advantage of this the system may have indicated a price increase.

If you get to the point you are prepared to offer the lower price then let them know and show them the lower price walk if they don't work with you. Leaving with your money is really the only leverage you have.

Good advice, i would also suggest not telling them youre gonna pay with cash.. as has been mentioend a million times in other threads, these leaches live off of financing these days and - even though i like Carmax and have purchased vehicles form them- i dont think they are any different, in that they live to make financing deals .. finance the truck then pay it off after one month - obvs exclude any early penalty BS language .

So you tell them what the price was yesterday and that you will pay that. If they say no, tell them to frick off. It's that simple.

Sounds like you should have bought the vehicle If you wanted it. You never agreed on a price. You're getting upset at the wrong folks

why? Prices fluctuate on things. He didn't make a deal on the vehicle. If the price would have dropped $2k would he still be bitching and 'lighten them up on social media'

I sold for Carmax if you have proof of the price from yesterday they will honor it or talk to the salesperson. They will get it honored as well. Had this happen a few times. Carmax does market adjustments daily.

Very next day, I go to reserve a second test drive and the price jumped $2000.
Prices on used cars fluctuate and dealers use programs that track this and change prices accordingly. However, $2k in a day isn’t likely a market adjustment.

You could call and see if they would honor the previously advertised price, but if I were you I wouldn’t buy from Carmax. Rarely do they have good deals and they charge a premium while preventing the consumer from negotiating the price down. Through marketing, they have somehow convinced consumers this is a service. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Definitely don’t pay any price Carmax is asking. They are way behind the curve when it comes to car pricing. They still think inventory levels are low and the covid pandemic is affecting car prices. With the interest rates high and the car inventory levels high, it’s a buyers market. Be ready to walk away if they won’t sell it for what you are willing to pay for it.

Customers would rather pay a premium to shop from home and to not deal with car salesmen. It's that simple.

Are customers too dumb to know that if they don’t want to haggle on price they can pay the listed price at any dealership? Do they think Carmax is the only dealer that will take the list price without haggling?

Carmax does not care if you pay cash or finance. Their terms are their terms regardless. New car stores? Yeah dont tell them or they wont discount.

I see what ur saying.. but my POV, as someone who has bought 3 or 4 vehicles from them- is that i absolutely HATE used car salesmen and the negotiating tactics.. so i like the no-haggle aspect.. also in my experience, ive purchased vehicles form Carmax that are 3 or 4 yrs old with 40 or 50k on the clock and you literally couldnt tell the difference from brand new (at least not if u arent a professional appraiser or whatever).. I think they sell only the top 3 or 4 percent of vehicles they purchase (though that number may have changed) and i feel like i have gotten WAY more car for my money with Carmax vs buying brand new .. buying a vehicle brand new is a huge waste of money , in my most humble opinion .

ETA i forgot my favorite aspect, which is being able to search Carmax .com for the EXACT vehicle i want all over the country, and then fly one way to wherever it is and drive the new car back home, as i have multiple times .. im picky, if im dropping $25 or $30k on a car i want EXACTLY what i want .

.

Carmax is desperate to sell cars. Offer 2k less and be willing to walk.

No. They just don't want to deal with the experience.

You don’t have to haggle with almost any used car salesman. Pay what they advertise the car for just like at Carmax and no haggle needed.

Maybe, but sounds like effective marketing more than actual value to me. When I’ve car shopped, Carmax has never been competitive on price when comparing similar vehicles on the market.

Are consumers llike urself too dense to realize that used car dealers/lots who DONT employ a no-haggle policy are going to set the asking price super high (yes, even higher than Carmax)- knowing that folks like urself are going to try to “wheel and deal” them and negotiate a lower price ?? It’s ok, just go ahead and chalk it up to a mental lapse .

You can have a similar experience with most dealers in the country as at Carmax. Find there price online, email the internet sales guy and tell him you want it and you’ll be in to sign the paperwork and pick up the car that afternoon. Can save you 2-3k over buying from Carmax.

No. They are usually lower than car max. At least in my experience.

If you want to overpay at Carmax, go for it. It doesn’t matter to me. It just doesn’t make sense.
