The next Lizzo song I hear will be the first. So she’s doing a good job at not making music for me.

When black people talk about her making music for white people, they mean she is catering her music towards white people to draw in that crowd. Her statement is her saying she just makes her own music from her life experience, whoever shows up, shows up. She isn't writing music to appeal to a certain demographic, Ala boy bands of the 90s appealing to teenage white girls, like Taylor swift does
i think i generally agree with you, for a change. however, i think what a lot of posters are probably hung up on, and i think rightfully so, is the specific verbiage of "i dont make music for white people". i think i get what she MAYBE intended to mean...but she worded it poorly because that doesnt come off sounding like "this is based on my experience, whoever shows up shows up", it reads like - stay away whitey. however, the rest of the comments, in context, read more like "hey this is music for everyone, based on my black experience (whatever that means, anyways).
all that being said, as always, if a country singer from bumfrick Georgia said "my music isnt for black people" he would be excoriated and, as usual, black people are given a pass and an obvious double standard.

how old are you?
Old enough to read

quote:
she is not saying "i dont want white people to listen to my music" thats something completely different.
accusing her of making music for/aimed at white people is like calling her an uncle tom.
GTFO

Is there context beyond the article? Because nothing in the article comes off that way.

Sure, if he said he was a white man making music based on his experience as a white man. That's hard to argue with since that's who he is.
The big (D)ifference here, however, is that would be career suicide for a white musician. And you know that as well.

did you miss this part?
quote:
the singer said. “When black people see a lot of white people in the audience, they think, ‘Well, this isn’t for me. This is for them.’
she is saying she isn't making music "for white people"
its "for everyone" (except me apparently, cuz i think she sucks). it's right there
basically she wants to sell tickets/albums to white folks but still keep her street cred

Wow really? How enlightening. I don not know.

yeah i guess after going back and re-reading, it definitely doesnt seem like she is emphasizing the "for everyone" part. but i still think that the main issue with her comments is the specific line of "this isnt music for white people". maybe if she had said "this isnt music ABOUT white people" or something like that it would have come across better.
regardless, i'm not really trying to defend this fat cow. i just dont think she necessarily meant it to come off quite as harshly as it did. but hell, maybe she did. i dont know. regardless, i cant name a single one of her songs, so i'm certainly not the target anyways.

Or, she might just be a as racist as we think she is. Either way

from a conservative's standpoint, and i think i can safely say that the majority of conservatives would agree, the outrage is the obvious, continued, blatant, and egregious double standard. i dont think the vast majority of conservative white dudes that post on this board and on this thread really care if Lizzo is making music for them. it's the fact that she can say something like that with precisely zero criticism, and in most cases will actually receive praise, from the mainstream media complex.

Yep, I wish you Leftists had not made it a "thing".
You see, you dishonest twat, you want to pretend that people haven't had their lives destroyed over making much more innocent statements than the one uttered by this fat racist btch.
There have been MUCH better human beings that would have LOVED to see you Leftists moron giving the benefit of the doubt as you are in this case.

If you've had your life destroyed just come out and say it. The invisible boogeyman shite is played out.
