Southern Comfort is currently the gold standard for Cajun accents, though.

It definitely wasn't cajun plains or down the bayou which I think is what people expected

Only to people living in Louisiana, native Louisianans or those who repeatedly visit South La enough to know the difference. I would wager the vast majority of people watching the movie couldn't tell between a Cajun accent vs a New Orleans "yat".

Eat shite. I've always loved the character in comics but hated every portrayal of him since the 90s cartoon because of the accent.

It reminds me of Mark Norman. No one from fricking New Orleans talks like that.

Channing Tatum is not a cajun nor does he sound like one.

He did terrible and that was part of the joke

After watching the clip further down on pg 1, I think you're right. Intentionally an over the top caricature vs trying to be legitimately good.

And Tatum's attempt doesn't annoy me half as much as whatever accent John Malkovich was trying to do as the Vidrine character in Deepwater Horizon... every time he talked it pulled me out of the story and made me focus on his attempt at an accent.

He did better than any actor I’ve seen.

1000000x better than anything in The Big Easy.

Yall keep hating, but I've spent many nights in Avoyelles Parish around a booray table full of baws with that accent. He did fine.

People forget that not all cajuns sound the same. Golden Meadow is different than Houma is different than Laffy is different than Lockport

Isn’t Gambit supposed to be from New Orleans?

Then the accent should sound like a Yat, not Cajun. It would closer resemble someone from New York than Troy Landry.

I caught the Couyon reference and laughed at that the part after sounded like gibberish. Going to be interesting to read the subtitles when it gets to streaming. I thought his accent was turned up to ten and exaggerated but I'll give him credit for at least attempting a real Cajun French accent as opposed to the garbage they usually try. Apparently he's a big fan of the Cajun culture. I saw a clip of him on one of the morning shows a few years back and he said one of his Christmas traditions is the read the Cajun night before Christmas to his kids in a Cajun accent every year.
