CHICAGO (WLS) -- At least 100 people have been shot, 17 fatally, in gun violence across Chicago since Wednesday evening during the extended Fourth of July holiday weekend, police said.

The violence includes three mass shootings, one in which two women and an 8-year-old boy were killed and two young boys were left in critical condition after multiple shooters opened fire into a Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood home on the South Side.
At least 19 of those shot were in mass shootings in Austin, Greater Grand Crossing and Little Italy.
About 12:15 a.m. Friday, police responded to calls of shots fired and found eight people wounded by gunfire in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, according to the Chicago police, who said the two gunmen fled.

Some people feel not enough is being done to stop the violence.
"They got to stop the guns. You know?" Austin resident Raul Perez said. "You can't go out at night. You know, you're afraid to go out at night because you're gonna get shot or something."
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson responded to the violence in a statement, saying in part, "we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and communities impacted."

And they still won’t talk about the real problem. Still blaming the inanimate objects.

Hey Jackass is the authority you should have used.
This year's tally for the weekend of the fourth is still six shy of the 2021 total.

These people never learn. I'm to the point I have zero sympathy for the people of Chicago.

If we could just get all those guns in prison there would be no more violence.

I'm sure the 8 year old was banging a set.

Austin and Grand Crossing don't play. Not good areas. Little Italy is a surprise though.

It's not our guns, it's your sons.

My nephew was there all weekend and somehow got away unscathed, he's still there. Maybe because he was nowhere near the Southside or that part of the Southside.
It's like when I have friends in town here in Baton Rouge, which by the way consistently ranks higher than Chicago in murders per capita every year, I don't bring them out for a night on the town to Mohican and Wyandott.

It was just the American Revolution reenactment. They were just teaching the youth the real history of the independence from Britain.
