The Band of Brothers podcast is pretty interesting. Interviews with the actors on making the show and their interactions with the real life heros.

The men that stormed the beaches on D-Day were nothing short of some of the manliest men that have ever lived. It's almost inconceivable watching that same event unfold today.

Pretty great story. IIRC Lewis Nixon was a pretty big alcoholic and he got first pick of the liquor, wine, and bubbly housed at the Eagle’s Nest. The dude took home a truckload of Hitler’s best booze.

What a way to end a campaign for both of them.

Funny Shames is referenced in BOB as having “seen too many war movies, thinks he has to yell all the time.” Guy made Colonel so he must have been a good officer.

Bob Dole just died too. The rate of WWII vets dying is so depressing. My great uncle who stormed the beach on D-Day died in 2016.

If thats accurate, I’m surprised its so high. 100K+ living WW2 vets? Didn’t think we still had that many around considering they’d all be late 90’s or older

Just for reference, this was Shames in the show. The guy who yelled a lot.
