I'm being cited article after article about how colonoscopies are not only not necessary, but are in fact more likely to cause harm than not.
I can equally find articles that touts the benefits of them.
I'm not naive enough to think all medical procedures are 100% safe and are all beneficial.
I also am aware of alternate screenings for colon cancer that involve blood tests, etc.
Note: I have a scheduled colonoscopy upcoming and this is my second.
My first one 6 years ago showed i had a few polyps, thus the need to followup with this one.
I inquired to the doctor (who is set to make money off the colonoscopy) about alternative screenings and he informed me that since I had polyps found in the past, that a colonoscopy is my only real option now.

Thoughts?

I did one a couple of weeks ago. In and out in like 2 hours. Nothing showed so don't have to go back for 10 years. The new prep that is in two does wasn't all that bad either. Worth it especially if there is any concern

I mean, if you want to walk around for years with undiagnosed colon cancer, you can try the alternatives. Colonoscopy is the best way to find and remove precancerous polyps and perform biopsies

I would prefer to know if I have colon cancer, especially since it runs in my family. The prep sucks but that propofol will give you the best nap you ever had.

Articles written by the people who make the alternate tests will definitely tell you that they are better than the procedure they don't make money from.

I was in the medical device business and you have to read the actual studies, not a summary or quote from it, and see the "DISCLOSURES" section. "This study was funded by Global Corp who manufactures the device covered in the study. The author was paid $10,000 to conduct the study and write this article..." Well that sounds unbiased.

I didn’t realize there was any legitimate negative side to it.

It’s worth the peace of mind and one of the few situations where wearing underwear with a hole in them is appropriate.

If you had polyps in the past and now you are trying to argue against having one, I can't help you. Good luck out there.

Why are you even worried about it then?

You've had one, you know it's no big deal. Are you just stoking all the fear porn since Covid?

My first had polyps so I had to go back in 3 yrs. 6 is a long time. I’d get my arse back in there.

Listen to your doctor. I’d also be curious to see some of these articles you’re referencing.

Colin cancer is one of the easiest to catch early if you just get the procedure. To not is moronic.
