Turn 45 next year, my arse is ready for its first colon check, then at 50 I get to get finger banged for a prostate exam.

Cancer is nothing to play around with. Dad had multiple myeloma and mom had ovarian cancer.

Check for cancer and get the best 20 minute nap you’ve ever had in your life? Count me in. I’ve had 2 and the worst part is pissing out of your arse until midnight the night before.

Then why is it so damn hard to get a doctor/PA to order you one? The guidelines a lot of doctors have when it comes to ordering scopes is super strict. There have been so many cases of young people in their 20s and 30s getting dismissed by their GIs and being told “it’s just IBS” only to find out later through an emergency scope that it’s colon cancer.

IDK what state you are in but I called the gastro Docs office and scheduled the procedure. Didn't have to get my primary doc to 'refer' me for the screening.

TBH though, this was a little over 15 years ago. My Mother died because of colon cancer.

Can someone in the medical field please tell me/us WHY do we have to have a 'referrer' for a potential life-saving test/screening?

I am spending $$ for a co-pay and my precious time, taking time off from my job, spend time sitting in the Docs office waiting to have them 'refer' to a specialist, such as a gastro, ortho, cardiologist...when I can directly call the specialist office and schedule in an appointment.

Anywho, to the OP and anyone else, get that colonoscopy.

It could very well save your life.

Its no where as bad as you think it is.
The prep is not as bad as folks make it out to be.

I have seen several people I know die because of colon cancer.

I had the screening performed a few months ago.
Doc found several polyps, most were benign(non-cancerous). 3 were deemed 'pre-cancerous'.
Doc removed them all, and I have to get another screening in 3 years.

If I would have put it off and ignored the screening. I would be facing colon cancer in a year or two.

If you do the 'poop-in-a-box' test and they find you may have colon cancer, you will still have to have the actual colonoscopy performed.

A finger up your arse is good for character building

After every digital prostate exam I’ve had I do these things immediately after I leave the doctor’s office:

1) Drive to AutoZone and purchase 6 quarts of motor oil (not synthetic, the real stuff) and an oil filter.

2) Head to the house and tell the wife to make me a sandwich. Eat said sandwich and swallow it down with a Budweiser.

3) Change the oil in my truck and get enough used motor oil under my fingernails to last three or four days.

4) Head to the back and split at least a half cord of firewood.

5) shite out the sandwich, shower, and shave. Splash a little Old Spice original scent aftershave on my face, spray on a little Right Guard deodorant, and brush my teeth with Pepsodent.

6) Throw on a western shirt, a pair of Wrangler jeans, and my finest pair of boots.

7) Head to the local dive bar, order a Budweiser, chase it with a couple shots of cheap bourbon, and pick a fight with the biggest, meanest looking dude in the bar.

8) Go home, tend to my wounds from the arse whipping I received, and go to sleep.

The next morning, I wake up, feeling like a man again, and forget all about the prostate exam.

a colonoscopy is my only real option now. Thoughts?

I’m not a doctor, but if they found something growing in your arse you should probably get the test done, unless you want to die from arse cancer.

Seriously, not a troll attempt.
I've been told from multiple people (of which I don't believe entirely) that colonoscopies are just unnecessary money makers for doctors.
And try to tell me they do more harm than good.

You are correct, having a colonoscopy done is unnecessary and can do more harm. I read the article about it recently too. I'll try to find it and post it here.

Just did this yesterday. How accurate is it? I wonder if I should just get a colonoscopy.

From this thread it seems if you are 'at risk' you oughta go with a colonoscopy... but otherwise, cologuard is fine. I've not done one but my husband did at 46 and it was fine. I did get the "duty" of dropping it off at the post office or ups store, don't remember which.

How do y'all know it's not a false negative? He could be in advanced stage right now.

Did not see it advertised on tv... thank God.

Anything could be a false positive or false negative.
