Commercial Actors Payment

I was wondering if the success of a commercial has any effect on the actors pay, or if they only get a set amount after filming. The Statefarm commercial with "Jake from Statefarm" was highly successful. Been running for two years now. Does "jake" get any extra compensation due to its longevity ?

Usually, they get paid a set amount and then a piece everytime it runs.

I met someone who was in a national ad for a jewelry store commercial that run a lot. I asked him if he got royalties and he said no, he got a one time payment of like $700 bucks.

My brother is a an actor. He had a VERY small part in a Superbowl commercial a couple of years back that only ran for about a month before the Superbowl and not after. He got paid about $15k due to how many times it came on. The actors are paid each time it shows on air. Those few people with national long running commercials are making BANK

Jake from State Farm is an actual State Farm agent named Jake Stone

Yes, They get paid a fee up front and a small amount per airing if they are Union members**. Many times if a commercial is a success the actor gets a contracted gig.
(see Flo, The Cavemen, Mayhem, The allstate guy, Jared...etc)
Now though instead of hiring him back, they are having Dan Akroyd as Beldar the Conehead recast the same commercial.
**At the SAG level, the actor is paid for:
- The session where they are filmed (fee per day plus travel, etc...). This session fee is usually calculated as scale times ___. For celebs, the numbers are so far higher than scale no one looks at it.
- A residual according to the amount the commercial airs (sometimes session fees offset a portion of this) and these relate to the amount they were paid for the session.
- Additional fees for usage like online or in-store.
- Holding fees to maintain their non-compete clause and to keep the contract in place while a commercial is off the air.
Union scale for a day of shooting is $592.20 currently. Residuals pay on a scale based on how many times the commercial airs in each category of National Broadcast, cable, regional, and wildspot (specific airings on channels or shows that aren't covered by the others).

One of my good friends was in one of the Drew Brees Wrangler commercials a couple years ago, and he got $200 or $250(can't remember) each time it aired. He made a decent amount, but does more modeling than anything and still works full time at a bar in Nola.
