Love was invited annually by David Letterman to sing the song "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" on his late night television talk show just prior to the Christmas holidays.
These performances started in 1986 on NBC's Late Night with David Letterman and continued on CBS's Late Show with David Letterman until 2014.

Apparently, DL and Paul Schaeffer did it on The Tonight Show this year.

On that same Letterman episode every year, along with Darlene Love- Dave would have NOLA native Jay Thomas come on the show and retell the Greatest Late Night Story Ever Told:

That was a pretty cool tradition. Late night TV has fallen off a cliff.

Every year, my entire family, extended too, would gather around the TV and watch Letterman’s Christmas episode. My dad would mutter under his breath about that dang liberal Letterman, but he still smiled and chuckled with the rest of us.
Obviously, the highlight for me as a kid was watching the Football throw to hit the meatball off the tree, but now, Darlene Love’s voice continuously brings me back to watching that with the family. The Lone Ranger Story was a cherry on the top.
Sad to think that a majority of those people we used to watch Dave with are gone. Christmas Baby Please Come Home somehow becomes MORE meaningful every year.
Merry Christmas to all. Hug your loved ones tight tomorrow!
