Did anyone in the OT call 1-800-GOLF-TIP in the 90s?

A buddy of mine at school told me about it in the mid-90s.

I went to a pay phone not far from my house and would call it every day after school.

I was too nervous to call from my home phone.

An Indian dude would count to ten I think three or four times. I remember there being a long pause between 7 and 8.

There was a siren later in the call.

A woman screamed shortly after the siren.

So strange and weird.

Gives me chills thinking about it to this very day.

Why would anyone spend money to keep an 800 number like this going with no potential for profit?

I've since googled information about it, but there isn't any real answers in regards to who would do this and why.

I remember hearing about this. Sounds like it was one of the first ARGs

The ones on USA Up All Night looked like fun. Of course, I wasn't 18 and didn't have a credit card.
