My friend and I are having a debate he believes at the height of the mongol dynasty the Ottoman Empire was already in full swing. I’m trying to explain to him that the Ottoman Empire is actually an offshoot of the Mongolian empire just not the Mongolia themselves but the Turks who they ruled over and taught the ways of steppe warfare. Which of us is right?

Your friend is wrong. The Byzantines were still in power (albeit dwindling) in the 1200s. Same period as Ghengis khan. The Ottomans really hit their peak on the 17th and 18th centuries. The downfall accelerate in 1830 After the Turko-Russo war

Mongols only pawn in game of life.

He's thinking of the Saracens, not the Ottomans. The Mongols raided the shite out of the Arab world. There were European overtures to the Mongols to form an alliance, but they never came to fruition.

Coexist? They did, sort of. The Mongolian tribes had long since broken up into distinct Khanates, but the Ottomans coexisted in the 1300s with the Golden Horde, which slowly Turkicized in the 1300s and 1400s but was at least nominally Mongolian. It wasn't the empire spanning from Poland to the Pacific that people think of, though.
They did also coexist with the Timurid dynasty, which was a mix of Turkic and Mongol. Again, sort of Mongolian...
Did the Ottoman Empire as we know it exist during the height of the Mongolian empire? No.
