Did we make a mistake with the anti-bullying movement?

I don't think the anti-bullying movement was wrong at all, it is very proper and necessary.

What HAS been an issue is the "who am I to judge" crusade. It dangerously extended into things like art, cultural practices and personal conduct, which SHOULD be judged.

I sadly think our world is playing out exactly the way CS Lewis warned about in his magnificent little book "the abolition of man"

Embracing Moral Relativism and the feelings = truth movement is where we fricked up.

Abandoning religion is where we are truly destroyed.

I have so many friends who look at going to church as some kind of bizarre incomprehensible thing. It's really sad.

Anti bullying movement started out good, then evolved into everything being called “bullying”, And made kids into perpetual victims. These kids missed the life lessons of having to stand up to the bully, or ignore the kids that are immature, or stay away from the mean kids, or don’t be an annoying kid yourself, etc....all very valuable lessons in adulthood. Instead they were encouraged to be a weirdo and anyone that had a problem with it was just mean. So now we have a huge number of adult weirdos that actually want to be victims and actually believe they are.

Good point, I don't mean terrorizing anyone.

I just mean everyone at some point needs a reality check growing up, and maybe we've let a whole lot of people not ever get their arse kicked or made fun of, like "scared straight" at some point.

We're just sitting around letting very small percentages of the population get away with some really weird stuff while being too afraid to even point out the obvious anymore. And then we the majority are supposed to accept it or we're threatened with repercussions (like the hypocrisy of the cancel culture that ruins lives).

Maybe not a mistake exactly but maybe the wrong approach to the problem? I don’t know how to fix it though.

In my opinion, somewhere along the way parents/ teachers stopped teaching the old saying, “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” I feel old saying this, especially since I’m not old, but kids these days (This includes a lot of adults now I suppose) seem to let name calling and what is now probably called verbal abuse affect them so much they can’t cope.

Not that I’m advocating for bullying or anything but I do think there are instances in bullying where both parties end up better people in the long run. Whether it’s the bully learns talking to people a certain way isn’t kosher in the real world or the kid getting bullied learns that sometimes in life people suck and you have to get over it - the latter is something that hasn’t been taught by anyone in a very long time in my opinion.

In today’s environment it seems like the person who gets bullied ends up having the country - especially if it’s videoed - label said bully for life to ruin them thus, the kid getting bullied grows up with a victim mentality and lashes out at everyone.
