Diver treats sharks like dogs and pets them

Jim Abernathy believes the sharks, "just like dogs," like to be petted.

In the video, he pets tiger sharks (and they do some to come back to be petted some more). His compadre removes a packing band from a bull shark (and the bull shark later follows the boat).

Pretty ballsy and amazing.

Doesn't rubbing their nose overload their sensory organs in that area? Makes them back off.

They have extremely sensitive noses. So, it probably is a powerful experience for the sharks.

It also helps that he is very calm about the situation and not giving off prey signals.
However, if the sharks were hungry.... he may just as easily have been in real trouble.
