Just to be clear, steroids do not kill an infection. It just reduces swelling and makes you feel better temporarily.

Bingo, you want both. feel better short term and get better after the steroid shot wears off because life will suck again without the antibiotics. Well unless you are viral, then it's just waiting it out and you shouldn't take antibiotics for it.

Yes, they do. Cortisone and a Z-Pack and I'm out that bitch, feeling like a million dollars that afternoon.

You shouldn't be using zithromax for sinus infections, you must be one of those people...

Steroids =\= Antibiotics

Antibiotics to kill bacterial infections

Steroids (prednisone or cortisone) are anti inflammatories. This helps inflammation in the sinus, throat and chest.

I've never received corticosteroid injections for sinus infections. Which one do they use?

You should. I probably do this 2-3x a year. Steriod shots are GOAT. Never noticed any side effects...

Steroid shot makes you feel better, which is all most people want. Antibiotics treat bacterial infection.

I've been to 1 or 2 doctors that won't give the shots. These doctors are a PITA.

No idea why they won't.

Also, most doc in a box places won't give the shots either, but they generally suck anyway.

It must cost extra to keep the injectable medicine on-site or something?

The ones that didn't have it looked they could barely keep the lights on.

This. They are two completely different medications. Steroids are anti-inflammatory. Antibiotics are anti-microbial.

I guess the way I worded that I may have implied I get them often. It's been a really long time.

The one I go to always offers me a shot. Sometimes I get a shot and a z-pack for later

It's a sinus infection. Quit being a pussy. Stop putting your fingers in your nose.

The meds are cheap. Doc's have been taught steroid shot are "bad". Many stick with this idea but have no idea why. If misused or overused, they can be bad. We also aren't taught symptomatic care. So many just don't know better. Does it treat the infection? No. Does it make you feel a shite ton better? Hell yes.

I'm sure we'll have someone chime in on how bad they are and give outrageous examples where the meds were misused, but refusing to give them at all takes a powerful treatment out of someone's toolbox and results I more missed work/school days. Not to mention how much better you can feel in short order.

Yes, but the steroids help reduce the inflammation in your sinuses, which can exacerbate a sinus infection, regardless of if its viral or bacterial.
