If we left tariffs alone? I was really looking forward to getting out of the mess created the last 4 years

Yep prices went up bc of lockdowns and all the Covid crap but never came down. That should show the doubters that companies aren’t going to “correct” something they wanted.

The economy was booming the past few years. Prices for goods were up world wide. Not just the USA.
Trump is messing with tariffs for his own ego. He wants every nation to bend the knee and "kiss my arse" as he said. This is all about the narcissist in chief. Plain and simple. You need to wake up and see what's going on.

You mean inflation was booming and the power of your dollar was effectively weakened.

Is the OP seriously contending that inflated prices are due to tariffs?

You have not been affected by tariffs in any way so far. You may see the effects in 3-5 months but anyone who says they’ve been seen higher prices as a result of tariffs so far is a fricking retard.

Maybe could also just not really understand things and asking a genuine question

Prices never come down. They may stagnate, but they never come down unless people quit buying, and Americans are too selfish and spoiled.

I’ve talked with friends about this a bunch.
Let’s say the cost of making the products go down, companies are still going to charge high prices because we have already been paying them. Companies are not going to willingly leave profit on the table. Somehow, they are going to have to be forced/encouraged to charge lower prices.

A lot of prices went up due to wage inflation. Until employers start cutting people’s pay (not going to happen) those higher prices are here to stay.
People didn’t want to work because they were getting paid not to. Companies were competing for less people creating unsustainable wage increases. Once that happens it’s hard to undo. You can give smaller raises and drop entry level pay to eventually lower your overall labor cost but those take years to play out.
There are definitely some companies that abused the situation and continue to do so (that will always be the case). But so much of what we consume and use is labor driven and that is where the biggest inflation took place.

A bag of Lay's potato chips not on sale were $6 a bag before the tariffs(still are)and they're made right here in the United States. Yet they can sell them once a month for 2.50 a bag. Been that way for a mininum of 2 years. Tariffs didn't do that. Inflation and greed did.

You were under the impression prices of things (in general) would ever “come down” or go back to how they were? Deflation would be very bad and is never going to occur.

They are not going to lower their prices to reduce product, they are going to share profits to in forms of increased wages to reduce profits.

Tell me you’re not in the market, without telling me you’re not in the market.

Prices don’t go down once they’ve gone up.

This is nonsense and not at all how any of this works. Wage increases didn’t cause inflation.

Apparently I’m more “in the market” than you are
