You never have to tip a service man. But like anyone else people like and appreciate extra cash.
$10 or 20 is more than enough, unless he gives you free stuff, then $50.

I have the uverse guy 10 bucks when he did my installation. He was cool and wouldn't accept a beer so I told him to buy him some when he got off work.

I would just offer some bottled water if I happened to have any. I have heard of other people tipping though. I don't know. At this point it really seems like you would be starting to tip everybody. What's the criteria?

I think the only people I have tipped in my life are food service industry people, barbers and hair stylist.

My mom gave the Dish guy $60 because the reciever was bad on the first installation and he had to come back out on a Sunday.
Turns out, a week later, after we were still having problems, we find out he was fired for selling receivers he was labeling as defective. Hopefully she learned her lesson after that one.

AT&T came to my house this past week to set up U-Verse. Guy was cool also, didn't tip him but did keep him hydrated with drinks as he only had 2 waters to last him all day in his work van.

Tipping is really getting out of hand.
Who should we not tip?
