There is something so satisfying about the sound of a dodge ball smacking someone in the face

Damn. I honestly don't remember anyone getting hurt. The non-athletic people normally just huddled in the back and waited for their early exit.

I don't have any experience taking two balls to the face. What's it like? Did it hurt?

It looked like it hurt. Especially when it was the poindexter with glasses

I doubt they have any data that supports this.

How do you get injured in dodgeball?

In high school, we used to play battle ball aka dodge ball. I had a ball and started pushing forward on one side of the court. On the far side, a player from the other team had a ball and was focused on the targets in front of him. I was able to come up behind him and blindside him from approximately 10 feet away. He wore glasses and the ball hit him in the side of the head. His glasses exploded into several pieces and one piece cut his nose so he was bleeding. The coach was in an elevated seat a few feet away from the hit. I looked at him and this was one of the few times I saw him laugh out loud.

I remember in jr high we had a game with a giant inflatible ball, i had to be around 6 ft tall. Anyways it was 3 vs 3 and the goal was to push it to the other teams side. It was a great game, but very injury inducing. Bodies would fly everywhere when both teams rammed into the ball.

Through fifth grade, "highly competitive activities should be discouraged so that students of all abilities will experience success and self-confidence," the standards say. Teachers should avoid "putting students on display" and having children choose team members. Furthermore, "expectations for students' fitness levels should be established on a personal basis rather than setting a single standard for all students at a given grade level." The point is for everyone to embrace fitness and find it fun.

That may be the dumbest thing Scruffy has ever read.

Our school banned dodgeball. So we started playing battle ball instead. Same thing, different name

We had a few fights but the coach said he didn't feel like doing the paperwork so we were on our own if a fight broke out

It was called murder ball when we played it in elementary school PE. It's what we all called it, including the teachers.

Now called dodge ball but it's still played.

Dodgeball was the only time I could exact revenge against the nerds who made fun of me for being an idiot. This sucks.

Now that I've seen it mentioned, it was actually battleball, which was the most fun fricking thing ever. But you could throw those hard yellow balls incredibly fast. They finally banned them for a lighter ball after a while.

I remember we had a game we'd play at recess called crapball.

Basically you had all different sorts of balls (footballs, soccer balls, kick balls) and you'd pick teams.

Put the balls out on the field and then the teams would run for them, if you had a ball you became the target for the other team, kind of like smear the queer except with multiple balls.

So all recess you'd just have guys tackling each other and trying to cause a fumble trying to get the balls to their team. Whoever had the most balls at the end of recess won.

Fun times

We had these pussy foam balls. Didn't have near the impact of the rubber balls.

This is about Louisiana, not Los Angeles.

Although, your point probably still stands.

I don't think I ever got to play dodgeball in school. I just remember playing basketball, because our Coach/Teachers were lazy as hell and would just wheel out a rack full of basketballs and then disappear. Occasionally, they would let us play indoor soccer on the basketball court and a few times a year make us run a mile on the track.
