My brothers and I still joke about it. Our grandpa used it for everything and it burned like hell. Were they both the same thing, orange?

It hasn’t been made in years!

I was more orange during the summertime than Donald Trump. Road rash and brush burns from crashing my bike were met with copious amounts of monkey blood.

I prefer Paleosporin.

Use both. You can get them out of Mexico. Mercurochrome no longer contains Mercury.

You can get both, at least the modern versions, through Amazon.

This thread explains a lot about what's wrong with your generation

When I was in Vietnam my Mom sent me two tinctures (small bottles) of straight iodine. I used them to heal my whole squad’s jungle rot. It burned like fire but that was the least of our pains. And it worked fast.

I still use Iodine. I think these things are almost obsolete because of Neosporin.

The old formulations are still available on eBay from time to time. Fun fact: the old formulations stung like heck because the solvent used was usually acetone. Both mercurochrome and merthiolate are still used in other countries but they use water as the solvent so it doesn’t burn as bad.

Don't need them any more. Kids are not likely to get cuts and scrapes playing a video game.

I heard people also used to use kerosene on cuts.

Yeah, we always had that stuff in the house when I was a kid.
One of my aunts was a firm believer in the healing properties of "Dr. Tichenor's" and she'd pour that stuff over cuts, scrapes, bug bites, you name it.
Hardly see it any more to be honest.

This right here. The first sign of a sore throat and I start gargling with Dr. Tichenor’s. This stuff will cure anything.

Every once in a while I'll get one of those nasty mouth ulcers and Dr. Tichenor's is my go-to for getting rid of them. Burns like hell at first but numbs them a bit and they go away in about 2 days once I start using it

It’s like ipecac Can you still buy it.

Yes. If my Mom wasn’t using Mercurochrome she was putting what she called “purple medicine” on my cuts and wounds. I believe it was called Gentian Violet. Came in the same kind of bottle with a little stick attached to the cap to apply.
