Doesn’t he have to disconnect? I read that she left Scientology. That makes her a suppressive person so he has to totally disengage.

Probably what Tom thinks. Assuming that Jerry O'Connell is really Suri's biological father. Once Katie Holmes removed his ability to keep the relationship he's probably no more relevant than anyone else Suri knows about her mother dating.
