What is the “right” time? I’ve got to get from Mobile to NOLA next Saturday evening. Is it ok to get across the bridge after 5:00pm?

do yourself a favor a drive 98 out of Mobile into MS, then drive 63 south till you hit 26, then take 26 west until you hit I-59.

Westbound: Exit 20 through Delisle, left on 630, take Texas Flat Rd to 670, to 59 south. Way faster.

603, not 630.

And 607, not 670.

Took the back way tonight. There wasn’t much traffic on it.

I didn’t realize how bumpy Texas Flat Road got. Also, with the radio off, I could hear the birds chirping just after dusk.

Maybe that’s why the speed limit is 50 mph.

Foe eastbound, if you want to avoid the cluster at exit 24:

Take exit 20 and head south. This is Kiln-Delisle Road. Go all the way to the dead end (Menge).

Turn left, then take the first right a few feet away (Bells Ferry). Bells Ferry turns into 28th Street. Just past the Long Beach city limits you can turn left on Beatline to go back to I-10.

I was going a modest 55. Since it was a little wet still from the rain. But, even at 55 I would be getting passed by all the impatient drivers from I-10 that usually go 90. Also, to the Hancock County rRoad department, some of those curves should be no passing zones. I think it is striped with a dashed yellow line for most of the length except for some intersections where the road widens to 3 lanes. I could see some fool trying to pass someone in the curves or on a hill only to hit someone head on.

Yea, it’s pretty dangerous. Before the construction we’d always have my son take the interstate to 59 instead of driving Texas Flat or 53 up to Hattiesburg. Adds time, but safer by a good bit.
