Stubble is hot. You know this. And now science confirms it. To be clear: We're not talking about a soul patch or an elborate Riff-Raff style swirling goatee. Just plain old stubbly, scruffy, ungroomed facial hair.

From ScienceNOW:
quote:

A new study shows that facial hair says a lot about a man and that attractiveness peaks at the "heavy stubble" phase. Researchers photographed 10 men at four stages of beard growth: clean shaven, 5-day "light" stubble, 10-day "heavy" stubble (shown), and fully bearded. Three hundred and fifty-one women and 177 heterosexual men viewed the photos and rated each face for attractiveness, masculinity, health, and parenting ability. Women ranked heavily stubbled faces as the most attractive.

Participants said that the clean-shaven men looked about as healthy and attractive as those with a full beard, but rated the bearded men higher for perceived parenting skills. Light stubble got the short end of the stick, garnering low scores across the board from both men and women. The 5-day growth may be too patchy, the researchers write in the May issue of Evolution and Human Behavior, which suggests"a threshold of density and distribution may be necessary for beards to function as an attractive signal." Stubble conveys maturity and manliness, they write, with less of the macho aggressiveness implied by a full beard.

Your boy Pecker is usually rocking a some Eric Decker level stubble. My face is too handsome to cover with a full beard, but I'm not trying to go full baby face on you. Depends on the look I'm going for though, and obviously the occasion.

Please be aware that there's a fine line between being a chunked up dude with a neck beard, and having a strong jawline and a few days stubble. There's a right way to do it without looking slovenly and unkempt - generally speaking you want to keep your neck clean, and also keep your stubble away from your cheekbones.

I have permanent stubble. I just cut it with clippers. I haven't shaved my face with a razor in about 15 years.

But you still clean up your neck with a razor, right?

I’m just lazy as frick and don’t care what’s on my face. When I do shave, people look at me like I’m retarded

Nah. Clippers with no guard. I can't remember the last time I bought a razor

Wow, Pecker. Thanks! I’ve been doing it all wrong. This will definitely help me in the business world AND in the bedroom!

Same here. Women love it. Gets uncomfortable when guys compliment how well maintained it is a bit to much though...

Does McVay pull it off well or not (yeah, I know what his girlfriend looks like)? I was pondering this last night.

I trim with a 3 guard 1-2 times a week and shave the neck about once a week (usually on a friday).

Ladies love some stubble. And a little bit of beard conditioner on heavy stubble goes a long way. I’ve got some fierce whiskers, they’ll tear up whatever they come in contact with. The beard conditioner softens them into a purring tiger whisker

Something tells me it's not the facial hair that makes these guys attractive, but rather their attractive faces that make them attractive.

Yep. You want it to look clean but also natural. You go too hard/high with the lines and you’ll wander into guido territory.

I dont. I have different guard levels for different parts of my face. Ie. My mustache gets thick/dark, so I use one higher than on my chin to help even it out.

Last half or so inch of my neck i'll use no guard. I used a razor to do this part a month or so back, and it sucked when growing back.

I do this once a week, and good to go. Doing it for so long eventually you start testing different looks out. Ha worse is when your trimmer craps out after yrs, and you cant find another similar one. Then you have to learn it all again. Ha.

Did you shave upward?

When my dad taught me to shave he was adamant about never shaving upward to avoid that. So nvr have. Just wonder if it was true or not.
