The Happy Meal toy thread has my mind spinning to my childhood. Cereal box treasures were the best in the 80s! I loved searching the aisle to find my favorite cereals and the best toys.

One of my favs was the Garfield padlock.

My bedroom ceiling always had a green or red stain due to those.

One time at an estate sale, the lady collected old food boxes. There were several cereal boxes, and one of them was Corn Flakes from the 50’s, and it had a fishing game on the back. There were a bunch of fish that you cut out and make a small hole in the head. Then the instructions said to get one of your father’s fishing hooks or your mother’s sewing needles and bend it like a hook. Tie it to a piece of string. Put the fish in a bowl of water and use the hook and string to catch the fish.

I used to like the 45 singles (aka vinyl type records) that they’d attach to the box. My all time favorite was a collapsible telescope that they put in Cap’n Crunch.

I just bought a box of Count Chocula for the kids. The box had “Free Pumpkin Carving Stencils!!!” written on it. When I got home, I saw that the stencils were publicly available online and you had to print them yourself. At first, I was angry but then somewhat comforted by the disappointment that was so common as a kid.
