Fingerpoke of Doom was 25 years ago

The match saw Hogan poke Nash in the chest with his index finger, prompting Nash to theatrically throw himself onto the mat and allow Hogan to pin him; the victory marked the reunion of both nWo factions into one villainous group. Earlier in the same broadcast, WCW announcer Tony Schiavone gave away the results of their Monday Night Wars rival World Wrestling Federation (WWF)'s Raw Is War (which was taped six days earlier, and aired from tape at the same time Nitro was being aired live), revealing that wrestler Mick Foley (who had wrestled in WCW as Cactus Jack and was now working for the WWF as Mankind) was set to win the WWF Championship. Although this revelation was meant to deter Nitro viewers from switching to Raw Is War, it instead reportedly prompted 600,000 viewers to change channels in order to see Foley's victory, with most viewers only tuning back in to Nitro when there were five minutes left in the broadcast, in which the Fingerpoke of Doom occurred. The incident was named "The Fingerpoke of Doom" both for Nash's deliberate over-sell of the finger poke, and for the negative ramifications the incident had for the company as a whole, with some wrestling journalists crediting it as the beginning of WCW's ultimate downfall and loss of the Monday Night Wars.

Kevin Nash one of the most overated wrestlers of a time. shite on the mic, shite in ring skills, etc. More boring than watching paint dry. Absolute polar opposite of Scott Hall.
Kevin Nash was just a big tall guy that got a push.

God where has the time gone?
RIP Scott Hall.
RIP Scott Hall.

There was just something about Nash and his relationship with Hall that made both better. I don’t think Nash would argue that Hall was better and they seemed to enjoy working together.
Big Show is an even bigger guy who I think is a better example of what you saw in Nash except Big Show never really found someone he clicked with. Just my opinion.

Hall was definitely better on the mic and in the ring. His podcast interview with SCSA adds a good bit of insight into how good he was.

Go back and watch the old MidSouth matches.

What I've never understood is that instead of having Goldberg take out the "new" NWO one by one they brought in David Flair.

The night Nitro killed itself in a lot of fans eyes - all of the goofy finishes at the big ppv's for two solid years followed by that was the coup de grace.
By summer 99, Nitro was well on its way down. That show at the Superdome was horrendous.

On target. One of the mysteries of of the last days of WCW was that AOL/Time Warner only listened to McMahon's offer when there were other offers on the table like Jerry Jarrett's group that wanted to buy.
