Florida Dunkin' employee is sentenced for fatally punching customer who used racist slur

quote:

A Florida Dunkin' employee accused of fatally punching a customer who used a racist slur against him pleaded guilty to felony battery and was sentenced to two years of house arrest. A Tampa judge on Monday also ordered Corey Pujols, 27, to complete 200 hours of community service and attend an anger management course.

Vonelle Cook was irate when he entered the Dunkin' store last May and began yelling about customer service, police and prosecutors said. When Pujols, who is Black, asked him to leave, Cook called him a racial slur, and Pujols punched him.

Cook, 77, fell to the floor and knocked his head. He died three days later.

quote:

Pujols was initially charged with manslaughter.

In agreeing to a plea deal, prosecutors considered the "totality of the circumstances," including Pujols' youth, his lack of criminal history and the fact that he did not intend to cause Cook's death, Grayson Kamm, a spokesman for Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren, told the Tampa Bay Times. He said they also considered the behavior of Cook and what he said.

You want to know what the problem is with the criminal justice system, look no further than right here. That should tell you all you need to know right there.

quote:

According to court records, Cook was a regular customer who tried to order coffee at the drive-thru on May 4. But the employees had trouble hearing him, and he began berating them for their poor customer service. He was asked to leave, but he parked his car and went inside the store.

When Cook appeared inside the store, Pujols asked a coworker to call police. Prosecutors said Cook began arguing with Pujols. Once Cook said the racial slur, Pujols walked around the counter and told him not to say that again. When he repeated it, Pujols hit him in the jaw and Cook fell to the floor.

An autopsy said he suffered a skull fracture and brain contusions.

Court records show Cook was a registered sex offender. No one from Cook's family spoke at Monday's hearing.

Putting aside the whole sex offender thing because we don’t know what that entails and it has no bearing on any of this, if we start giving reasons to kill a person as a cause for light sentences like “he said mean things” or some other variable that has nothing to do with this case, then we are screwed as a country. What does this say to society?

Sounds like the old man went looking for a fight and found one.

This isn't condoning the killer, but old man should have realized getting punched was a likely outcome for his actions.

Apparently, if you say something rude it is ok to kill you.

What word, if spoken to white people, makes it ok for them to commit violence against someone?

No sympathy for a sexual predator and racist. He fricked around with Pujols and found out the consequences.

Ah, the old “he said the n word” defense. As if it excuses any form of violence. Like a magic spell, it just drives these low IQ gooneegoos into an unstoppable frenzy of rage and they aren’t responsible for any of their actions…

Consequences to actions is a real thing. Some people have to find out the hard way.

All of what you say is true, but people need to understand that their actions have consequences, and just because some geriatric 50 years older than you says some hateful shite, you still have to control yourself, and that truly is the problem in society today, people lack filters and responsibility. This just plays right into that.

As long as the victim isn’t black, and you claim racism made you do it, you’re gonna be OK.

From the link:
quote:

the victim repeatedly used possibly the most aggressive and offensive term in the English language," Kamm told the newspaper.

Sure would like to know what that term is. I’ll bet it’s used more than Kamm thinks. Must depend on the color of the skin of the person saying it.

The guy who punched him isn't getting off free. Guy probably has a felony conviction and financially will be fricked for a while.

Also not sure if the killer has been in jail or bonded out.

One-punch murders, have always heard they happen a lot.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that it cost him his life but if you get confrontational with people there can be consequences.

Same way I feel towards an ex con when a cop kills him for failure to comply.

See the fallacy of your (lack of) logic?

Well the other guy is dead. So there’s that by comparison.

We are intentionally trying to frick it all up, and there ain't shite you can do about it.

Go own nothing and like it. Ohhhh, you thought the rss under your land would save you? HAHAHAHAHAHA We are making them worthless, and Mr Ad Valorem will diminish the value of the land itself to force you to sell. You can live in a 700 square ft Chinese apartment with the rest of your fellow citizens.

You're still not hungry, so your selfish arse is still worried about you, just like we planned.

If sending males into the bathroom with your daughters didn't wake you up, we know you're beat into submission.

Now, go attack those regular people that should be allies and praise 1/2 of the pieces of shits that perpetuate this life ruining scam on you.
