since putting oil and gas in it voids the warranty
Do what?
yes, due to epa restrictions they cannot accept back or attempt to resell items that have oil and gas put in them because that can never be 100% removed. read the warranty card or label, it says that right on it

My Dad has a generator he bought in 2012 from a guy who had bought it after April 27, 2011 (2011 Super Tornado Outbreak). The guy didn't use it again for the rest of 2011, so he decided to sell it in early 2012. My Dad was basically able to buy a brand new generator for a discounted price.

Buying something like that, using it then returning it after is the height of trashiness. Not surprised the trashy people of Baton Rouge Gonzales would do such a thing
Would you honestly expect any different behavior from the citizens that make Louisiana last in the nation in everything except murders?

They weren’t returns. I can promise you that
The Lowe’s I went in this weekend specifically had signage about needing to be new in box with receipt and within some number of days to accept the return

Yes, but they rushed out some lemons from Champion that were shipped with stuck floats. They tried to just replace it with another but no way in hell was I going to replace a carb on a brand new generator. I was totally fine with store credit even though I didn't tell them that but they back charged my card.

Home Depot Generator Return Policy In 2021
Home Depot allows customers to return generators within 30 days after purchase as of 2021. Customers must provide proof of purchase via a receipt or valid photo ID for verification. Additionally, customers can return generators without the box or packaging as long as they have proof of purchase.
If you want to learn more about whether you can return a used generator to Home Depot, whether you can return a generator without the receipt, and much more, keep on reading!
Can I Return A Used Generator To Home Depot?
Returning a used generator (including brands such as Honda, Ryobi, Dewalt, Champion, Generac, etc) to Home Depot may be tricky as it depends on the condition of the generator.
If you have used the generator a few times and it is still within the return time, you may be able to return it.
However, if your generator has been damaged somehow or has gained some wear and tear, Home Depot store associates will likely deny your return request.
Home Depot’s returns policy states that if any defects or damages exist on the product, then the customer should refuse to take it into their possession.
Although you cannot return a generator to Home Depot without a receipt, there are ways to regain your receipt if you have lost it.

Home Depot Generator Return Policy In 2021
I've only ever had them question a return once in all of the years I've shopped there, I guess they think it's good bidness(and I do too,) even if they have to eat it every once in a while, and I suppose there are a lot of trashies out there(here,) that abuse their policy

Was in the Garden center at Home Depot in Gonzales this weekend. There were over 250 generators on pallets outside in the garden center. I asked the guy in the back if they were all broke. He said as soon as the power came back on, they were getting 50+ returns a day.
This is so weird to me. I just do not get the logic around waiting until you are without power to deal with crowds, traffic, long lines, etc. to find a generator.. only to return it later.

Let us know when the sale starts on the returned units.

I am picturing all the obese with camouflage decals on their truck parked at the entrancehauling it out of the bed and hobbling to the return line.
This is embarrassing to know that people do this.

Lowe’s had non returnable signs on their generators. I wonder if that was enforceable
It is non returnable if the box has been opened and there are signs of use. Even adding fuel and oil would be a sign of usage. Why would that not be enforceable? Home Depot is stupid for taking returns if they have been used, that will be a big loss of money.
