Trying to see if the parents on the OT have any ideas of cool camps for 11 year old boys. Sleep away camps wouldve been cool, but its out of the picture. He likes sports, but wish they had extreme shite here like 4 wheelers and stuff

LDWF will be hosting two Summer Day Camps in Baton Rouge at the Waddill Outdoor Education Center located at 4142 N. Flannery Rd. in Baton Rouge from June 22-26 and July 20-24 free of charge.
The June 22-26 camp will be for 25 kids 10 to 12 years old and will take place from 8 a.m. to Noon every day. Snacks and drinks will be provided at the camp. This camp will teach kids the basics of the outdoor with hands on activities and safety instructions. The kids that make it thru this camp will then be guaranteed to be selected for the full free camp next year.
The July 20-24 camp is for 25 kids 12-15 years old and will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. Snacks, lunch and drinks will be provided. Paul G Manship YMCA has a good camp and lots of good facilities, at least when I was a counselor there 5 years ago that was the case.
Do not send them to any of the other YMCA's in Baton Rouge though, their camps are total shite, I went to the Southside one when I was 11 and it was miserable and the one closer to downtown has very limited facilities for kids.

I've heard that the BREC Astronomy Camp at Highland Rd Park Observatory is really good.

i'll add AIM in Prairieville to the list anyway. Especially if he likes sports.

If he's into baseball, Cypress Mounds will be having a summer camp this year.

What are they suppose to look at in the middle of the day??

they go swimming, play dodgeball, or arts and crafts.
I just want my brother to play with kids his age and have fun. The school he goes to is weird.

get them into some of the BREC camps. My son (13) has gone the last few years after going to the YMCA for several summers.
Ones he enjoyed:
Swamp camp (most popular and may already be full)
Astronomy camp (wasn't too into it at the beginning of the week, but at the end, he changed his mind.)
Art camp (he loves art, so this was right up his alley)
Tennis camp (liked it, especially since the one he went to spent time fishing at the pond each day)
Magnolia Mound camp (this one rarely fills up, so it's a good last minute option. they do lots of crafts and go on field trips)
Ones I think he would have liked, but were booked:
There is an Outdoor adventure camp- looked good, but filled up fast
Zoo camp- also looked fun, but too far for my schedule.
Good luck
