Got some part time work in Abbeville, LA. What should I know about the area?

I live on the Northshore

I’d prolly be driving down there, work 2-3 days, drive back. I’ll do this every couple of months.

TIA

First, get you a New Iberia haircut, so they know you’re for real. Throw in a pair of crocs to go along with a ratty muscle shirt, drop some “baws” while you’re picking up your unfiltered smokes, and you’ll be golden.

Eat at Shuck’s and Black’s, if it is still open.

one of the best towns per capita as far as restaurants go

Riverfront/Dupuys are top notch - both have good bars also

Can also drive 10 min out of town to Hebert's Steakhouse

Shucks is good

Richard's/ Cajun Claws for boiled seafood

Shucks is one my favorite places to eat. They got a golf course but it’s not in great shape. The crime will only find you if you look for it, good little downtown area

Museums and art galleries are world class.
Uber is best way to get around for after theatre dinner.

Take highway 90 back and forth

Stay on the main outside roadways.. highway 14, state street, etc. do not venture into the middle of Abbeville

Handy Mart has some solid gas station food.

El Caminos is solid as well. Good to great margaritas.

I think there’s a newer hotel near the airport going towards Erath.. stay there if you stay the night.

Most importantly, Shucks, Riverfront, Dupuis.. make sure you eat at all of these restaurants

Crime is high. Lock your vehicles like you would in Nola. Food is great. If you’re lucky you’ll get to watch a sonic style beat down insider the Walmart.

The catering place by the library has some killer lunch specials on Fridays. Or at least they did about 20 years ago.

Places to eat:

Dupuy's
RiverFront
Shucks

If you're looking to grab a drink, I'd go with the bar at Dupuy's, or Kelvin's.

As another poster said, essentially just stay on the main roads of the town and you won't have anything at all to worry about.

I don't know of a hotel that I would stay at in Abbeville, other than The Caldwell House and I'm not even sure that it's open as a hotel anymore.
