Grace Kelly Had Daddy Issues

The enduring legacy of Grace Kelly paints a picture of Old Hollywood's most beautiful and sophisticated ice queen, though that ice queen is rumored to have had a rather steamy love life. Because of her royal title, Grace Kelly’s scandals were largely covered up, not discussed and forgotten, and Ice Queen Kelly sure did have some outrageous scandals. During the prudish 1950s, Kelly bedded many of her costars, who were frequently married and much, much older than she was. Of course, this rampant and reckless life is often linked to Kelly’s daddy issues, as her father allegedly said he hadn’t expected her to become much more than a housewife and referred to her acting as only "a slim cut above [being a] streetwalker."
quote:
Kelly snagged her first major film role in 1952’s High Noon. And, while filming High Noon, she had her first major affair with a costar. On the set of High Noon, Kelly had an affair with Gary Cooper, who was married and 28 years her senior. This - his marriage and their age difference - would become an ongoing theme in Kelly's affairs. Of Kelly, Cooper allegedly said: “She looked like a cold dish with a man until you got her pants down, then she’d explode.”
To make matters a bit more complicated on set, Kelly also had an affair with the film’s director Fred Zimmerman, who was, again, married and more than 20 years her senior.
quote:
In 1953, Kelly starred in Mogambo alongside Ava Gardner and Clark Gable. It seemed an affair between Kelly and Gable may have been destined from the start, as Kelly said: “Mogambo had three things that interested me: John Ford, Clark Gable, and a trip to Africa with expenses paid. If Mogambo had been made in Arizona I wouldn’t have done it.”
When later asked about the affair, Kelly famously said: “What else is there to do if you're alone in a tent in Africa with Clark Gable?” She certainly knew how to drop a cheeky quote in an interview.
quote:
Kelly starred alongside Bing Crosby in 1954’s The Country Girl, for which Kelly won an Oscar, and 1956’s High Society, which would be her final film. It’s reported that Kelly had an affair with Crosby while filming The Country Girl. The night Kelly won an Oscar for her performance in The Country Girl, Crosby reportedly came to her hotel room expecting to spend the night with her, only to find a nude Marlon Brando, who had also won an Oscar that night - and beaten Crosby to do so - in her bed. Crosby lost an Oscar and his girl to Brando in one night.

Given their reputations, of course Grace Kelly and John F. Kennedy hooked up. Their fathers, both self-made Irish-American millionaires, were friends, so Kelly and Kennedy socialized even before they were famous in their own right. In the early ‘50s, Kelly and Kennedy were in a romance so intense they even discussed marriage; however, Kennedy’s father put a stop to any and all marriage talk because he didn’t want an actress to hinder his son’s political career. Kennedy’s father must have been thrilled about the Marilyn Monroe affair.
In 1954, Kennedy, who was now married to Jackie, found himself recovering from back surgery. To cheer up her husband, Jackie - completely unaware of their previous relationship - had Kelly visit Kennedy in the hospital. Kelly arrived, dressed as a nurse, and supposedly performed oral on the recovering Kennedy. This story makes Monroe's "Happy Birthday" rendition seem rather PG.
quote:
Kelly appeared alongside William Holden in 1954’s The Country Girl and The Bridges At Tokyo-Ri. It’s reported Kelly had an affair with Holden, who was married at the time. Kelly sure did have a type and it was married costars. While tabloids reported on Kelly’s affairs, she remained discreet and made comments like: “As an unmarried woman, I was thought to be a danger.”
quote:
The fact that Kelly was seen as wholesome by the general public, despite her very busy private life, was something other Hollywood actresses frequently commented on. Silent film star Clara Bow said: “‘Grace Kelly, however, will get away with having many lovers. Know why? The damn public will never believe it!” Meanwhile, Zsa Zsa Gabor, who had racked up nine husbands during her lifetime, said of Kelly: “She had more boyfriends in a month than I had in a lifetime. She went to bed with anyone she fancied at the time.”
quote:
It’s been rumored that Kelly had an affair with her To Catch A Thief costar Cary Grant. This rumored affair is said to have lasted several years, perhaps even while Kelly was married to Prince Rainier.
quote:
Perhaps the most shocking fact of all is that Prince Rainier was under the belief that Kelly was a virgin when the pair married. Before the wedding, Kelly underwent a medical examination, during which it was discovered her hymen was broken. Delivering perhaps the most important acting of her lifetime, Kelly explained that her hymen broke while she was playing field hockey. And that is how she became Princess Grace of Monaco.

It’s actually a really good read for anyone with an attention span equal to a three year old. Guess you were born after 1996, which means you need everything to be 140 characters or less.

Grace Kelly was a nymphomaniac basically. I know someone who lived in one of her properties in Monaco and he told me this ten years ago.

Cary Grant was gay. Any rumors of an affair with her were purely to smokescreen for his homosexuality.

I know the media sucks today and doesn’t care who’s life they try to destroy, but did they not have Hollywood tabloids back then?
