I was at a wedding one time and I thought about yelling "Stop, you can't go through with this!"
It was my own wedding if I recall correctly.

Had a friend, this was in the mid-90s, getting married overseas. No one objected, but an old girlfriend showed up. There wasn’t an issue there, but it obviously screwed him up. During the vows, he accidentally said the old girlfriend’s name instead of the bride’s name.
Anyway, he got married, but it didn’t last. Ultimately, the friend knocked up the old girlfriend and they got together, but it wasn’t immediate. They went through quite a bit. Even found out that HIS friend had once made out with the old girlfriend and during the time of the wedding started screwing HIS sister. Those two ultimately got married.
I believe there was a TV show that must have heard about your friend’s situation and used it in several episodes that turned out to be a major hit with their viewers.

That is totally from the movie "Four Weddings and a Funeral".

It's such a useless gesture most weddings I have been to don't even include it.
The celebrant should say that if anyone there objects to please stand and quietly leave immediately.

You see it all the time in movies, but I have never seen or heard of it in real life.

I've never been to a wedding where that question was asked.

I went to a wedding where someone had to be restrained from doing it. Don’t know if that counts.

I've never been to a wedding where this was actually asked.

These days they just run an announcement in the parish bulletin for three weeks before the wedding. No point in doing it at the wedding because you have to vet whatever information you're getting from the person who objects.

I have been to countless weddings but I have only heard that phrase in the movies. Nobody ever says that.

Only in the movies.
If I ever actually went to a wedding where someone objected like that, it's the perfect time for me to bring out the popcorn.

No, but I was a bartender at the Jefferson Orleans back in the 80's and watched a groomsman clock his sister and knock her out cold at the end of the reception. Evidently he was drunk, and his sister was nagging him about something all during the wedding. I guess he got tired of her shite.

Never seen an out right objection, but back in my college days I was dating a girl who was in a wedding party. Her cousin was the bride, the bride was a young pediatrician and was an only child and came from big money. The groom was just a good ole boy that loved to hunt, fish and worked in a plant. Her parents thought she was marrying well below her standards. The bride's parents objected to the wedding and said they wouldn't come. So wedding day. After the bride walks down the aisle alone, and the pastor was just beginning the ceremony, the bride's mom came in. Walked to the front of the church and told her daughter, in a tone loud enough for all to hear and said "your father objects to this union, but I have came in support of you." She politely sat down and watched the ceremony. The minute it ended the mother got up and left. It was strange and uncomfortable.

No, but I went to a wedding for a friend of an old girlfriend. The bride was about 7 months pregnant. I mentioned this to my GF and she said that the groom wasn’t the father and the groom knew this fact. I probably should have objected just for common sense.
