What’s the backstory here?

I don’t agree with that option.

Her and her flight lead were scrambled to intercept flight 93 after they lost contact with the cockpit. Unfortunately they did not have time to arm the F-16 Vipers before they took off so the only course of action they had to bring it down was to ram the airliner's control surfaces with their wings and hope to have time to eject after impact. The passengers brought the plane down before they could intercept.

They were scrambled but werent briefed as to why so they had no weapons on board. Only option would have been to use their planes to stop the hijacked airliners using whatever means were necessary

Fortunately we do not have you making decisions for our country's safety.

She was called to go ram her plane into 93. While in the air, the passengers of 93 took control and crashed their plane in the Pennsylvania field. If they didn’t Heather was going to ram her plane into 93.

Where was she scrambled from? Because Langley has planes armed to the teeth on the ground ready to go at all times, and normally 1 or 2 already armed solely for air combat in the air at all times as well.
I was told by an air force Chief Master Sergeant, who at one point ran his own building at Langley, that we did actually shoot down Flight 93. But maybe there was a miscommunication between the order being given and the passengers acting before we could.
I also know we had planes flying in Afghanistan air space on 9/12.
Benefits of attending churches in military towns, you get to meet some very interesting people.

I believe it was Langley but NORAD was running a training and all of the armed aircraft were over the water. I do not remember now

I remember hearing about her probably 2 years ago and I couldn't understand how it wasn't a more well known story.
She and her flight lead took off knowing full well they didn't have any option to take it down other than to ram it.
They are heroes in my book
