0 claims in 19 years, State Farm. Similar 30% increase on top of incremental increases over the years.

Man I searched in the Houston area and the lowest deductible I could find was a 1% to 2%.

we are severely lacking options.

I shop home and auto every year and pretty much always find a better deal. My current homeowners (sage) on the house we just moved to is stupid low so I’m fully expecting them to skyrocket in the future

I stopped paying those crooks 3 years ago. I’ll just take the risk as I paid home insurance for 20+ years with 0 claims and they always wanted more money.
I purposely bought a house in an area that’s never flooded, no major hurricane threat, cut down any trees that threaten damage, and am happy taking care of my own stuff.
Screw those snakes.

My insurance just steadily goes up every year. I just changed a bunch of coverages because some of them were crazy high. For example, I was covered for $200,000 for personal items. I live alone now and don’t need that much. I told them to drop that $50,000.
There’s also that Coverage that rents you a hotel or something if your house is not yet livable after a fire. That was a huge amount and I told them to drop that coverage all together because I have another residence I could stay at.
They also had the coverage for the dwelling itself too high. I told them to lower that. Nobody says I would have to rebuild to the same specs, but I would actually just live in my other residence if something happened to this one so I would not rebuild at all, probably.
We will see how much my premium goes down. If it’s not much, then I will just drop homeowners altogether.
So double check your coverages!

stopped paying
Will be me in a few months after the mortgage is paid off. There are some trees around but at this point, it’s worth the risk to me to not pay.

State Farm wouldn’t even entertain the idea of writing me a home policy last year

Same scenario with safeco.
I switched to Sage Sure. Give them a call.

So
You aren’t even carrying liability insurance ?

Nope
The cost of defense if someone sues you is gonna eat your lunch. That’s why I carry homeowners. It’s not for the liability, it’s for the cost of defense.

I would reconsider. I got a quote last year for liability only - it was super cheap even in Orleans Parish. Ultimately we decided not to risk it and bought the comprehensive, but liability only is probably the on-paper correct choice.

To all you folks carrying nothing, wind is the expensive part. You can carry everything else for a certain little. If you own outright carry an X-wind and it covers for water pipes and fire and lightning for way less

Willing to accept that risk. No kids in the house, no kids coming to visit. Haven’t had an issue in 20+ years and don’t hang out with deadbeats.

Where’s your house? I’m feeling a little out of it today, and I’m looking for a place to slip.

Remember, it’s not about your claims, you’re paying for everyone else’s as well. That’s in your state and across the companies network
