They have an FM station in BR I guess they’re in the radio biz and sell ads etc, and is that high school Christian life I believe it is part of their group also or no?

He is, or was technically Assemblies of God, which AFAIK falls under the Pentecostal umbrella. I'm not up on the nuances of Pentecostal theology, but I've heard him refer to himself as Pentecostal, and he often talks about the Azusa Street Revival, which is where American Pentecostalism started.

I talked to a musician who played behind Jimmy from before the scandals until a couple of years ago. His take: When Jimmy eventually dies, neither Donny nor Gabe will have the moxie or whatever to keep the church going. He said that campus is going to make someone a nice hotel and convention area.
Donnie is a douche and has trouble hiding it. Gabriel is wet behind the ears but has more personality. He's not ready now but may grow into it if Jimmy hangs around long enough. You're probably right though. That operation is dependent on the force of the old man's personal magnetism.

He wasn't caught with a dead girl or a live boy?

I don’t think anyone is saying what he’s doing is illegal. I think many people are just wondering why so many willingly follow and give money to such a hypocrite.

They take like one a year to some condo on the beach. That old man at 86 works from 5AM-late in the evening 7 days a week. He records music and preaches. They employ about 500 people in the Baton Rouge area and always offer their facilities to Entergy, state, etc. when disasters hit at absolute zero cost.
Sounds like I'll take him over Osteen any day. Baton Rouge is lucky to have a reasonably upstanding charlatan instead of the true one we have in Houston!

I don’t know if I’d call him a hypocrite as much as a human being in need of a savior like the rest of us. The hypocrite to me is the one who claims to be without sin and is not. Is he someone that should be leading a church after all that? Well, I’m not so sure about that, but that’s between he and God and he and the church governing authority I’d imagine. I have no desire to return visit. I know that. I think he hurt a lot of people who mistakingly looked up to the “man” instead of looking to God alone. I watched it take place, people fawning all over him with “Jimmy said this, and Jimmy said that” and “Jimmy did this and that”. It had gotten pretty ridiculous the hero worship.
So, if theres a lesson to be had from all this, it’s for Christians to get it firmly planted in their head that Church is a hospital for sinners, and every single one of us are JUST THAT. It’s our nature that Christ came to save us from the effects thereof. People who think otherwise are fooling themselves, and there is no church leader who is exempt from that which plagues us all. If anything, I’d say the hero worship garbage just leaves it open for stuff like sexual immorality and such to take place. It’s a breeding ground for it, pardon the pun.
As I said, I’m not fan of Jimmy, but I don’t hate the guy either. I actually think he’s sincere, and not preaching this prosperity false Gospel garbage, so there’s at least that going for him.

Common problem. Never understood it. Almost cult like. I grew up UPC.

Those stations may not sell ads, but it's a lot of low frequency, rural spectrum that's going to be worth a fortune as 'broadband infrastructure."

Spin off thread: How did Jimmy Swaggart come back into power?
He took some penicillin and everything cleared right up.

Pentecostal religions got their name from the "day of pentecost", 40 days after Jesus' resurection when the holy spirit came over the disciples and they spoke in tongues. Pentecostal religions are those who speak in tongues. UPC, or United Pentecostal Church, who believe in oneness are a branch of the larger tree.
They all agree that you must dress funny and you can't do perfectly reasonable things, in the name of Jesus. Doesn't matter that his first miracle was water into wine, wine is still wrong.

[He only got in trouble for playing with hookers in Airline Hwy "hotels". From what I can remember he's never been in any real trouble with the Feds or the State]
Wikipedia has the following about a second indiscretion:
On October 11, 1991, Swaggart was found in the company of a prostitute for a second time. He was pulled over by a police officer in Indio, California, for driving on the wrong side of the road. With him in the vehicle was a woman named Rosemary Garcia. According to Garcia, Swaggart had stopped to propose sex to her on the side of the road. She later told reporters: "He asked me for sex. I mean, that's why he stopped me. That's what I do. I'm a prostitute."[26] This time, rather than confessing of his sins to his congregation, Swaggart told those at Family Worship Center, "The Lord told me it's flat none of your business."[27] Swaggart's son Donnie then announced to the audience that his father would be temporarily stepping down as head of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries for "a time of healing and counseling".[28]
At this point, Swaggart should have resigned and disassociated himself from his church. While he can (and hopefully did) receive forgiveness from God, IMO, being caught for a second time in an adulterous situation should have been the death knell for his days as a minister.
Just one person's opinion . . . . .
