I hear stories of cats doing this. They get dropped off far far away and they still end up back weeks later. They even wander off for weeks or a month and eventually come back. They are smart and have 9 lives
Smart? Seems kind of dumb to go back to the same people that put you at risk.

I remember a family in my neighborhood had a cat that they gave to a family member who lived about 10 miles away from them. A week later that cat showed up to their house. At first they thought the family member dropped it back off. I remember not believing him when he first told me the story. He told me to ask his mom if I didn't believe him so I did. And I remember her telling me cats have the ability to find their way back home within a certain distance. I have no idea how that cat made it back without getting hit on the highway or caught by a coyote in the cane fields.

My ex-girlfriend's cat did this once. When we were dating I'd spend a few nights a week at her place. One day her cat went missing. After a few weeks, she gave up trying to find him and got another cat. A week later her mom calls and says "your cat is on my back porch." Her mom lives about 5 miles away and across a major DFW freeway. She asked her vet about it one day and he said that it was probably because of me. Like "well, I can see I'm not needed here anymore. I'm going to grandma's."

We have a cat who rehomed herself a few years back. Just showed up to the house with a new collar and all.
We left her behind when we moved, but when we moved back it took about a month but she found us again at the old house.
Just for a visit—her new home beckoned.

when you bond with a cat, its real
Honestly there are times when I think the cat is more bonded to a house than a family. When I was a kid we moved into this house and the cat from the previous owner showed up. We called them to give it back, they were thankful and took the cat. However, the cat kept coming back to the house over and over again to where it was agreed that we would just keep the cat and take care of it.
We ended up moving away ourselves a few years later. Took the cat with us. It hung around the new house for a couple of days and then disappeared. Never saw it again but always assumed it went back to "its house."

Probably because he took the cat to a Vet who read the microchip and gave the location of the owner. Then he took or shipped the cat back to that location.

Right, but the cat made it back to their hometown after traveling 200 miles from a place that was not it's home.

We had this feral cat that we fed. It was a really good cat. It would keep the rats away, and would follow me, and meow whenever I went outside. It would disappear for days, sometimes weeks at a time, and we would think it was gone for good, but it would always return.

Those who are saying this is fake are uninformed.
I had a friend whose cul-de-sac had a cat that set up shop there and hunted for food. The friend and his family flirted with the notion of keeping it as a pet but said hell no when they realized it was pregnant. They took it to the Shreveport pound to get fixed and released, thinking that was that. A couple of nights later, I go to leave their house and this fricking cat is on their carport with a clipped ear, staring at us. As we collectively blink at it in disbelief, it runs inside and has been a family pet ever since. I just looked it up and the pound is 9 miles from their house. Saw it happen with my own eyes.

Not necessarily. My parents tried giving a cat to an old neighbor one time when they moved. Cat showed up at the new house 5 miles away. I've heard other stories like that.

If you have some kind of proof that this phenomenon isn't real, please do share. If not, then I'm not sure why you are so angry about this. If you have some reasonable thoughts on the matter, then I'd love to hear them.
That dumbass loser pretty much just goes thread to thread shitting on the OP or others or giving some shite take for no rational reason.

I remember we had lost a cat in a move and it randomly showed up at our new house. This was prob more 20 miles away though.

Cats are demonic savages. Especially ones with claws

My wife sometimes travels for work and on the day she's expected back the cat, (Baba Yaga), will post up and stare at the front door waiting for her. She absolutely knows.

Remember those little booklets they used to sell at the checkout. When I was a youngin I had one about this subject. its all bullshite. Writers made it up. Sometimes a stray shows up that looks exactly like the former pet.

I don't believe any of that far-fetched, made-up crap.
That said, cats can definitely suck out your soul while you're sleeping.

I had one travel 1 1/2 miles back to the old house after a move. Another got loose from me in the vet's parking lot (I foolishly thought I could carry) and made it home 1/2 mile away. I took him a couple of days.
They have internal GPS.
