I’m referring to the Sabine River which is the border between Texas and Louisiana. Not sure why the way South Lafourche guys say it would be relevant

There is a certain “ethnicity” in South Louisiana. They are referred to by some, even themselves as Sah beans. Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish people say it like this. Many are from Dulac, that’s why I said that they are made there. Texans and West Louisiana folk pronounce it Suh bean. Like the Sabine River and Sabine Pass.

Say- Bïne.

Like Gay-Nine

You’re wrong and so is everyone else saying that’s how it’s pronounced.

Spent a lot of time on the River growing up. From Coast Guard to weathermen to Game wardens...

It’s Suh-bean.

Although I have heard it pronounced sah-bine

Say-bine (rhymes with Say Nine)-- this is the classical reference pronunciation from mythology, as to the foundation myths of Rome and the taking of the Sabine women.

I never knew this was a thing until the last year or so. I’ve heard Suh-Bean (correct), Sah-Bean, and even Say-Bine.
