After all the threads started about them, OTers who have never lived in BR must have quite the mental picture of Riverside Towing
I assure you they are every bit as bad as you imagine, and worse.

Will tell an old story that I've shared before
came out into the parking lot of apartment complex to see that my vehicle was about to be towed. it was a situation where all of the parking spots were taken, so I needed to park in the grass. Since this was not an official parking space, they decided to hook me up. went up to the driver, and he offered me a deal that he would unhook my car if I gave him $100 in cash within the next 15 minutes.
I introduced myself to him and got his name. I then pulled out my phone, called the number on the side of the truck, and asked if this policy was a company policy for drivers to cut the company out of profits.
dispatch asked to speak with the driver. The conversation was very short. My vehicle still got towed, but it was totally worth it. I made sure to take plenty of photos while he finished hooking it up.

So I’m going to pay a lawyer to sue you over a $150 fine? Stfu idiot. This is why people dislike y’all. I got towed out of my own apartment complex last year. They drive around and look for people to tow, that is against the law. Then you go deal with those trashy scum bags. I’m all fired up now and it’s only 9am

so a lot to unpack here
If they unlawfully towed ur car, then the damages you could sue for would be worth the lawsuit
The towing company has a contract with the property owner that they are towing from, so no it's not illegal if given permission by the owner of the property.
And when towing from private property, it has to be authorized by the property owner. I guess you thought they just go around and tow anything they see illegally parked?
The fact that you were towed is more of a fault of the apt complex you live at than the particular tow company that towed you. If Riverside didn't do it, then someone else would have

Ask them for proof..We take pictures of every vehicle on personal property tows before touching it.
A. To prove they were parked in the wrong spot
Then how come when Riverside tows you out of your own parking spot or a spot you were allowed to park in they won't admit the mistake and give you your vehicle back?

I've always said that with the people out there who go crazy shooting up a school, movie theather, festival, or something with innocent bystanders, why can't one of those wackos choose a place like Riverside Towing instead? If anything, you would think that this would have already happened by now. Some dude who lost his wife, his job, his family, and these assholes tow his car one night when he has nothing to lose?

IDK...don't know anyone from that company. But here's what I would do in your situation. Take a picture of the spot you were pulled from, show that it was a legal spot to park in, then ask for their proof you were illegally parked. If they can't provide it, demand they release the car at no charge. If they don't, then call state police AND their client...ie the apt complex and tell the property manager what is going on. The apt complex should back you up in this situation.
LOL be careful tho...We have had people do that exact same thing and take a picture of a spot they shouldn't have been parked in

Honest question, do you work in a college town?
Posted on 2/15/20 at 12:22 pm to Oilfieldbiology
yes, but more importantly i've negotiated these towing contracts with apt complexes before. Trust me there's 5-10 other towing companies they could use should they piss them off. I've seen it happen plenty of times. And the apt complex doesn't want to piss off their tenant, especially if the tow company is clearly in the wrong

I have lived in Baton Rouge and all of the OT stories make me scared to go back because I'm terrified that the second I park somewhere, regardless of if it is legal, my car is getting stolen by Riverside and returned to me without a bumper.

They won’t make change and they know people can’t easily get change themselves without their car
Law is, if the tow company cannot make change, then they have 10 days to reimburse you by mailing a check. It is also the burden of the tow company to prove they paid you back either by certified mail or canceled check.
But under no circumstance can they keep your car just because they can't make change, and they have to accept an overpayment. Once again, State Police would make them do this
