How to find a used vehicle these days

Apart from word of mouth, FB Mktplc, shady dealers, Craigslist, and Carmax, how does one locate used vehicles for sale since newspapers with classified ads are nonexistent these days?

There is thing called the internet.
It’s pretty cool and you should check it out.

Cars.com, but most of the listings will still be at dealerships.

Surprised you figured out how to start this thread.

cars.com
carguru.com
You can narrow your search to exactly what you're looking for, find what you like, then go look at it in person. Kind of easy.

Hey, cool! I wonder how i posted this query?
Maybe what i'm looking for is some clearinghouse or focused site with used vehicles for sale instead of a random Google search, maybe someone who had a good experience with a particular site.

Check the used car inventory at higher end dealerships in your area. Wife got a 2022 Genesis GV70 at a local Lexus dealership and the price was on par with the Car Maxes etc., and they were super easy to deal with.

Finance companies like Cap One and Bank of America have a portal where you can search for used cars. Get pre-approved with Cap One online, and you can search for the year make and model you're looking for. It'll pull up local dealers that have that vehicle.

Autotrader.com
Cars.com
Those are pretty much the 2 biggest online vehicle classified sites and will definitely be your best options if you're looking for something specific since they have a ton of filters to search by certain years, make, model, trim level, mileage, distance from you, etc

Used car lots just buy trade in from the dealership or auctions. I bought my first car off craigslist and my second car from Facebook. Both can work ok but my advice is to look for a specific model (Honda, Accord, 2012.) and try to look everyday for just that car on FB or CL
It took my a couple weeks to find a good one but look everyday and you can get an idea for market price. A really good deal will sell in a day or two. You should bring a mechanic or friend who knows cars if you don't, lots of junk out there too.

If you're in Louisiana your first step is calling your insurance company and asking how to mitigate the cost of insurance(i say that with a sad reality mixed with sarcasm).
FB marketplace is where i go these days. It's exhausting but you'll eventually find what you're looking for and the person that has it will be someone you don't mind dealing with.

Agree that FB Marketplace and Craigslist are the best if you have time and don't mind waiting for the right one to show up and wading through all the BS dealer ads and obvious rip-offs.
I've bought my last 2 cars --both were 3 year old VW Golfs -- from FB/Craigslist from the original owners.. Both regualr people that were easy to deal with and the cars were cheaper by over 5k than similar ones I saw at dealers.
If you just want to make it quick and pay a bit more, all the sites like Car Gurus, Cars.com, Carmax have a lot of listings but are probably 95% from dealerships. Still better than going to all the dealers individual sites.

Have a mechanic check it out before buying. If it’s a good deal, it won’t last long. This is when buying from an individual.
I have friends and family in the car business. The lease plan was a great thing for them. They get a leased car back, low mileage, all service work done. A resale is too easy, once the vehicle is certified.

Apart from cars, trucks, motorcycles, minivans, bicycles, walking and public transportation, how does anyone get anywhere anymore since horse drawn carriages are nonexistent these days?

You’re in for a world of headaches. If you haven’t bought a car in last 5 years, it’s a different world
