With the recent Underwood flip and alledged crazy amount of money being spent on him what is the bes course of action to spend NIL going forward.

IMO, you obviously still need to recruit (and pay) high school kids. That said, I feel like the bulk of the funds are best spent in retaining roster and luring players in the transfer portal.

High school kids still need development and as shown by the Tenessee quarterback can possibly end up being a poor investment. He's a good QB but at least for now he isn't all that. A proven player in the portal is much more likely to work out in the shorter term.

I think it's best spent on linemen/front 7 out of high school and proven skill players at positions of need out of the portal.

Especially at LSU where the underrated 3* skill guys from Louisiana and East Texas usually have some serious studs that aren't demanding massive NIL $$ out of high school.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Don’t know, don’t care. I don’t follow what 17-18 year old kids do nor would I ever ‘donate’ to an amateur sport.

There are much better causes and charities out there to get involved in.

Yeah, he may be going to a mess. Michigan is going to lose like its four best players from a 6-6 team.

I do wonder how the collectives will value O linemen and defense and allocate that.

I know LSU fans are upset, but concentrating on bringing Nuss back may be best for the short-term, anyway.

based on thread title and board placement I thought that’s what this thread was going to be about.

As an 18 year old with ~$3million salary I can’t even comprehend how lazy I would be.

Going to class?

It was hard enough to motivate myself when getting a normal 9-5 job after graduation depended on it.

I'm speaking of the schools spending the money on athletes.

That said, best of luck to your son. I think I've been reading your posts about him since he was in junior high.

We’re on our way to Florida for his last game visit. He’s very happy with the opportunity. Not going to be easy…no way he’d be admitted there based on his grades. They have tons of support for athletes, but damn…his first semester in college is going to be a trip. I hope their current starter doesn’t go into the portal for a big Sr year paycheck…but it is what it is.

No offense, but in the NIL world I'd think pay for kickers is on the lower end of the scale.

For sure. Everything is paid for, so if he gets $20k/yr from his scholarship (untaxed) then the NIL being $60k/yr-ish when he starts isn’t so bad. Still haven’t called the agent…going to talk to the coaches first about that.

When you say $20k year off of scholarship… is this after tuition?

If so … this must be more
Then an athletic scholarship? Or do they pay above tuition/room/board?

I guess…. School me on how that works…TIA

Arkansas was $24k cash as a freshman (when you’re living in their on-campus housing for free) then $32 or 36k after, don’t remember. They said first day you get there in the summer you’d get a $7k check…then first day of the Fall an $8.5k check, then the first day of Spring again. Untaxed money that comes with your athletic scholarship. Free tuition, books, housing, food, tutoring…food charge card for local businesses that sponsor the program as well.

The NIL checks were going to be monthly (11 out of the 12 months) based on what tier you were. $3k/mo was their lowest tier. They thought the profit sharing check would be similar.

Haven’t had that talk with UF…I imagine it’s somewhat similar.

Ok- so maybe I’m just dumb, but not understanding…

The $24k- is that before, or after , books/tuition/food/housing/etc….

And the NIL- do ALL scholarship players get? Or is that player by player getting these deals?
